Exercise

Thank you very much, guys! She seems to be very supportive but I'm going to make sure again she understands I have the lung of a 5 year old. I haven't been this hyped for exercise in years!
Running will make your lungs waaayyyy stronger! A few months ago I went to the doctor for a check up and after the breathing test she told me "I guess you run a lot, your breathe is strong!"

That's actually my goal, so that's great! Luckily I don't have any health issues but walking up the stairs and going hiking is much more exhilarating than it should be, so I really have to work on my endurance and breathing, and running seems to be the easiest way to do just that.

So I started running with my colleague two weeks ago and it turns out I love it? I have much more endurance than I anticipated and it was great to get some positive feedback, as she was totally surprised by my performance during our first training session. We run together every Wednesday, plus I go running alone later in the week. I totally enjoy running and having a new hobby, so yay!

We've actually decided to participate in a 6k charity run so I will have to keep running for at least two months.

And I hope I'll lose my food baby.

Jesus Christ died on the cross at the age of 33... and 33 is the number of kilograms I've officially lost!

I was gonna start a new weight lifting program today, but I'm gonna stop and give myself a recovery week. My knees were a bit achy at some points last week (all those squats and lunges, I guess), and while they're fine now... I'd rather rest for a bit than tear my ACLs.

Any recommendations on an app or site that offer a good body weight program? Meaning, a workout/strength training program that doesn't require the use of any weights or equipment? One that you can plug and play based upon your goals and which is easy to follow and track. I'm fine paying for the app. I'm going to be in a location for about 5-6 weeks without access to a gym, but figured I wouldn't wait until I'm back home to restart my fitness program (which has been... lax during the pandemic.)

Does anyone know when Couch to 5K ends exactly? I'm now hitting 5km (including the warm up / cool down) and I feel like at this stage I can just set my alarm and ditch the app altogether?

Freeletics is highly recommended. And brutal.

In August, I started going to the gym in Ireland, after having complete fear of even stepping foot in a gym and being judged. I got a personal trainer to help make me more comfortable and so that I know what I’m doing and I really enjoyed it.

My first time in the gym on my own in Paris went well until my last set when a hugely jacked straight guy came over to tell me I was doing it wrong, only to discover that he just wanted my machine. I was so angry and so depleted after having built up my confidence so much with the PT sessions. Fuck off with your unsolicited advice! If this is what men are like with women in the gym, no wonder so many of my friends don’t go on their own.

The next day I spoke to one of the personal trainers in my new gym about what I was doing and he gave me tips and some encouragement. And now he chats away and fist bumps me every time he sees me like he does to all the big muscular guys which is cute.

I’ve definitely found my groove now, I’ve noticed some positive changes already, and I’m much happier. My goal is to be more toned and get stronger, but I've noticed that I’m still the same weight I was like 6/7 weeks ago. Is that normal for toning and strength building? It’s not my goal to lose weight (or even to gain weight) but I’m just surprised seeing as I can physically see changes.

That's most likely just the newly-gained muscle mass. Keep it up! Have you made any dietary changes to go with your workouts?

Ah okay, thanks!

My best friend is a dietician and said that given my history with anorexia I shouldn’t be making many changes for now. I haven’t relapsed in a long time but it’s just better to be cautious.

Yeah you’re probably losing fat at the same rate you’re gaining muscle which is actually ideal ddd. Be excited!!

Random apparel talk!

I bought a pair of Nike Pegasus 38 and at first I thought I loved them, but there's something wrong with the heel tab. It's a bit too low for me and I feel my heel trying to come out the shoe in every step. And even if it never does, it's a weird feeling and I'm never 100% comfortable wearing them, if that makes sense? It's weird because I also have the Revolution 5 and the Renew Run 2 and both fit perfectly.

So... I'm thinking of returning them and cashing the difference for the Adidas Ultraboost 21. Since I'm mostly going to use them indoors, I'm hoping they'll last a couple of years.

I also need compression shorts of some sort, cause training in my underwear is all fun until I sweat and it feels like I'm wearing a very wet diaper. So... advices and recommendations, pretty please?

For what its worth, my 2020 ultraboosts have been really decent and I use them for running (relatively frequently). They've hold out well, still have some decent cushioning and are comfortable. I'm going to be upgrading to the 21 or 22 range soon because I love them so much. You've got a good shoe!

he/him
So I haven't been in a gym in about two years because *gestures vaguely at everything* and lately the mood is very

I'd like to start going again because I feel like it's the only way I can actually hold myself accountable for exercise and I know that regular workouts will make me feel better, but because it's 2021 I have a lot of anxiety about it - I'm double vaxxed and close to eligible for my booster so I probably shouldn't be as anxious about it as I am but here we are.

My question to those of you that do go currently is...like............how. I need reassurance.
