I use them. Some are better than others- the Ministry Of Sound Pump It Up ones are very good for general fitness. I also use Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease and the new Pussycat Dolls one, both of which are good for flexibility. I have the Hotpants Workout as well, which is alright but very hard and ridiculously cheesy. I wouldn't buy anything with a soap star on the cover.
I have a brilliantly 90's Rosemary Conley one which seems good, it's just a general aerobic section followed by abdominal and thigh workouts and such. I can't do Ministry of Sound and the like because they generally involving dancing and I have no rhythm which makes them nearly impossible to follow.
I have one of the Beverly Callard fitness VIDEOS (yes, on VHS!) and it's amazing. It's a good workout, ridiculously cheesy in a 90's out dated kind of way and fun!
Aren't most of the fitness DVDs a bit of a con? i.e. the person who's DVD it is is doing shitloads more exercise really that the stuff they're claiming in the DVD to achieve/maintain their weight.
I think they can feed into people's desire to have instantaneous results when that's the last thing you should be aiming for ( I say this yet I'm guilty of it also). I just aim for at the very least 30 mins of intense cardio 3-4 times a week followed a round of toning exercises and the improvement over a while was great!
I've been doing this alongside my weight training: http://www.extremefitnessresults.com/insanity.html Try it. Dares ya. If anyone's interested in that kind of thing, by the way: bodybuilding.com/exercises
I never exercise but I do WALK everywhere (miles and miles every day) which i more than most people do I suppose. I've had about a 26 inch waist since I was 12 and I am 23 now.
This is why I asked. I'm doing the Rosemary Conley one and I definitely feel better after I've done it and can really 'feel the burn', as they say, but I'm not sure if that alone is enough.
I just steal the odd exercise from http://www.bodyrock.tv/ and add it to my routine ... Just ignore the fact that she used to be a porn star and has a really bad boob job ... the actual fitness content is very good
I'm really, really unfit these days - it's actually shocking. I get out of breath walking up the hill from the train station to my house. I was going to the gym at uni for a month or two last semester, and it was helping, but I stopped going after my headphones broke (I know that's literally the worst excuse ever). I'm planning to go back tomorrow morning, but I'm quite scared - in the past I've had 'attacks' when I've overexterted myself. Not really sure what they were, I'd get short of breath and feel like I was going to faint (hazy hearing and vision, and all that) so I'm worried that'll happen if I do too much running. I was thinking of going on the treadmill and just doing a brisk walk for 45 minutes or an hour, probably with a bit of an incline - would that be a good session to get me back into it? I could ask one of the staff at the gym, but frankly I'm a bit embarrassed.
I go to the gym 3-4 days a week (usually lifting weights) and i go running every other week. I'd say im pretty healthy (If you exclude smoking) lol.
I do exercises at home, like sit-ups and shit, everyday, but that's about it. Oh, and I walk up five floors going to work in the morning which makes me feel better about myself though I realize it only burns about 8 calories. I'd go to the gym, but memberships are a bit too pricey for my liking. Can't wait until summer, when I can burn fat off by swimming.
I go to the gym 3x a week and do mainly resistance training, and then swim twice at the weekends. Im a bit of a fitness fan, but only ebcause I realised that at 25 my youth is gone and i now have to make the effort to look after my health. No longer can I eat like a horse and remain 6ft4 and 10 stone ! (as i could but 2 years ago)
ive just pushed a non electric motor round the garden, was the best workout ive done in a while i can feel my arms are going to be hurting tomorrow!, from using muscle i dont normally use if only grass grew quicker i could get a decent toning session from mowing the lawn every other day
I walked a mile and climbed lots of stairs doing errands during my lunch break. But then I had a Snickers,
I often find that walking at maybe just over usual pace is a good little exercise for break times. Im sure im so stick thin because i rush around lots and have severe "Boy Twitchy leg" syndrome. I fidget like a bitch.
