FKA Twigs - Eusexua

I need you to elaborate on this when you have the chance, because I'm genuinely curious about/open to this idea.

Both projects are rooted in similar philosophies/concepts about getting close to the divine and the self. Twigs describes this as 11 pillars, while Hayden describes it as a ring. These are different processes that essentially “unlock” your psyche. In Hayden’s video about the ring, she explains that reaching orgasm (or doing drugs, etc) is one of the things people can do to get in proximity to god where they achieve euphoria and enlightenment.

Hayden goes on to say that the feeling she’s talking about is one that does not really have a word. It’s the exact concept that Twigs describes Eusexua as being, and she felt so strongly that she created a word for it.

The only true difference between the two is that Hayden uses music as a way of unlocking this while Twigs uses her body and movement. But they are very much the same idea at their core.

I think it’s easy to hear people talk about stuff like this and dismiss it as pretentious, new age, art wank, but I personally think it’s really awesome when artists have manifestos for their albums. Charli did the same thing with Brat, although that’s a very different concept. It’s beyond world building. But I think in some ways it makes for a stronger project, and an even more engaging one as a consumer, because you can fully immerse yourself in it if you choose to.

Ahhh I love this philosophy, I think I need to listen to perverts soon with this in mind!

This album is so good! I'm absolutely obsessed with of Room Of Fools. My other favs are Girl Feels Good, Sticky, Perfect Stranger.

I'm sure the influences have been discussed in here to death. But what i'm getting is hints of Bjork, Kate Bush, Madonna, Orbital, 90s trance, and on Wanderlust she randomly sounds like Raye?

Also is Sticky a sample of anything? The piano riff reminds me of another song so much.

Least favourite song is Childlike Things and i'm very confused why and how it features North West...

Sorry but I love Childlike Things. Key part of the album's midsection to me. Production knocks so hard, I wasn't suprised to see Jeff Bhasker on the credits. Of course it's juvenile, clue's in the title. Banger though.

I find Sticky disrupts the flow between Room of Fools and Keep It Hold It though. Not sure where it belongs but not there.

Love this, thank you!

Aphex Twin’s ‘Avril 14th’, but I have to say the small piano melody that comes in around 0:27 reminds me of something else and I can’t quite put my finger on it.
Hmm i've never heard this song before so I don't think that's what it's reminding me of. The mystery continues.

The Aphex Twins song has been sampled in quite a few other songs so maybe one of those?

Dd not this being how I find out that that "Iran So Far" SNL skit used an Aphex Twins sample.

But no it's none of those unfortunately. The part that sounds familiar to me is the riff at the very beginning of the song. But I guess it is a very simple riff, it could be anything. I'm sure it'll come to me one day.

What a lovely post. I haven't started Eusexua yet, but the amount of DMs that I've received encouraging me to do so, in conjunction with this messaging, has made it a priority today. Thank you boo.

Thank you. I loved making the connection, and seeing other people pick up on it organically when I got them into the album, without me even pointing it out. I think it might be hard to topple it as my AOTY, but it’s only January February, so we’ll see!

If anyone watched Hayden’s video, Twigs gets into her take on it with “The Eleven” audio. It’s basically just her running through the definitions of the terms she created and associates with Eusexua, followed by guided meditation

I hope that this inspires more of the gals to explore trip-hop. Like, along with 90s house, the Y2K electronica boom deeply influenced my taste and forever changed me on a chemical level and it's heartening to see that I'm not alone in that. EUSEXUA feels like a love letter to the era - sonically and visually (you can't tell me that the album trailer isn't a "Chris Cunningham for Playstation" homage at least a little bit)
