This is such a you play one song you play the whole thing sorta album which is very... R&B! I do get the critique that it's maybe a little too smooth and polished but for better or worse the production choices here are extremely deliberate, including the delicious transitions, the very similar tempos throughout and the decision to not include any smasha tentpoles, which they are perfectly capable of (such as "Not My Job", still their best!). Even if it blends together too much, and even if it does err too much on the side of homage, there is still such a density of detail to pick out and savour, and their talentry (especially the harmonies, Lord!) is undeniable. I have no doubt they'll develop a more unique identity if given the chance, so I really hope they're in it for the long haul, and get the necessary push for it.
