Foxes - The Kick

I really love this album, it's full of that punch-the-sky worthy jaw droppingly cathartic electropop that's missing alot these days. I will say that I feel sorry for Foxes herself, there was such a buzz around the album the week it dropped with Twitter gays and good reviews etc. But it just seemed to fizzle out afterwards. The near six month wait for physicals and cancelled tour dates didn't help. She hasn't posted on social media since June, and as far as I'm aware hasn't done any gigs since. She's been very open, in her songwriting and interviews about the impact the industry has on her mental health and I really hope she's not struggling too much. It's a phenomenal album and it desvered so much more. I thought an indie would suit her more than a major, but it seems like they did nothing for her. I truly hope she's okay and knows how much love there is our there for this album.

I really hope Louisa is doing ok.

I remember listening to Body Suit through headphones on repeat in a moment of hopelessness and it was such a balm.

Her songwriting is expert level; succinct, emotionally stirring, self-assured. She knocks the socks off so many others out there who get more attention. The world isn’t fair, I hope she can continue making wonderful music.

I feel like she'd really benefit from some supporting slots to drum up a fanbase again, I get that she can't do her own your given the cost right now but getting out there in any way would help. Provided of course she's feeling mentally well enough for it.

Her hoopla set was so joyous, she nailed it and it was a delight to see her go for it again. Her songwriting is still superb and Friends In The Corner, Sister Ray and Gentleman are amongst her best.

I forgot about Foxes. I followed her religiously from 2014-2016 and her debut was life changing for me. I must give this a listen over the next week. She sort of faded into obscurity or something. I feel so bad for her because she's one of the more honest and wholesome pop girls and incredibly talented.

You're missing out. Her last album, The Kick, is her best release and in my opinion the best album release of last year. She also has a song she did for an EP before The Kick, called Friends In The Corner, which is also spectacular.

He/Him
The Kick’s amazingness was only matched by its extreme underperformance in the charts. I shouldn’t have been able to account for 1.07% of its digital sales that launch week, but I did so anyway.

Everyone here should buy the signed poster edition to support British pop and to treat your walls: https://foxes.ochre.store/format/892073-the-kick

It and The Loneliest Time were easily my favourite pop girl albums of 2022, both being beautiful bookends to it.
