I see George Michael’s official Facebook page is trying to cash in on the olympics by advertising his “commemorative figurine”. The replies are universally damning.
Rightfully so. This feels so tacky.
Just disrespectful and total crap.
Prince estate: eleventy billion albums and the Vault. Reissue program so far: brilliantly conceived, thoughtfully handled.
GM estate: 6 albums of original material plus a few extras. Maybe some unreleased material. Reissue program so far: LWP with a live show from the wrong era, a notebook and a shitty figurine.

They seem to be going for ‘so bad it’s good’ and even getting that wrong.
That figure looks so cheap and like no care went into it. It's absolutely insulting to George Michael and his legacy.
It's ironic that George spent his whole career obsessing about being known for quality and integrity, and wanting to be thought of in the same league as other iconic stars, and yet once he's gone...we get all this naff rubbish and lame reissues.

Ha, I think it came from a good place though. The song meant something to him, maybe in his struggles, and he probably thought he was putting a new spin on it. It wasn't as though he was releasing I Want Your Sex '08.
I have always liked his cover! Its good in a "late night trawling the gay sauna looking for a hook up" way!
The only time I went to a sauna (about 20 years ago) they were playing Five Star The Slightest Touch. I may have squealed.
