Gina G

So she had fights/suits with Steve Rodway and her manager?
Yes they are well documented. I think she was ultimately successful but burned through her cash in the High Court case and by which point Rodway had gone bankrupt and couldn’t pay her anyway.

Interesting that her name has never been added to the writing credits of Ooah Aah. I thought she claimed to have had in writing when the original demo was spruced up and this was one of the claims in the court case?

I had no idea about her legal issues. The music industry is as corrupt as the politics are.

Side note: I was listening to a podcast interviewing Miranda Cooper from Xenomania and I had no idea she was Gina G's backup dancer at Eurovision!? And that her doing Eurovision led to her working with Brian Higgins? Gina G kind of led to Girls Aloud.

I know many here are talking about many reasons for her not having a comeback or a second album etc citing as reasons her legal or family issues but I honestly think she was one of the many one-album wonders that the music business has seen. Just like Mary Kiani. I would have loved for her to give a second album with great singles and remixes but I don't think she had it in her either. Somehow they had a great combination the first time around and one of those was missing from the successors.

She had the star power in the 90s for a second album. But for well documented reasons, that wasn't to be. But yeah, as much as i love her, that ship sailed in 1998/99.

Just a shame her 2 come back attempts both stalled after one single.

Did Calvin Harris kind of rip off I Belong To You when making We Found Love? Those first opening synths are similar.

Never noticed that before and now it’s all I can hear. Plus I Belong To You is my favourite single of hers, bar These Boots Were Made For Walking, so I’m happy to look at it that way!

Mary Kiani had 4 flops that charted because the cassette cost 49p, Gina G had a 5 week No 1, another two Top 10s, and another 3 smaller hits, plus hits around europe and the US.

Can we just pretend that Ti Amo made it into the Top 10? If we're a little uncomfortable we could always use the E'voke method of "virtual Top 20" hit

Said virtual Top 20 hits were actually #25 and #30....

Even though it never made Top 10, I still consider Ti Amo to be a respectable hit and probably her most recognisable song after Ooh Aah (Fresh! could give it a run for its money there, though Ti Amo was the bigger hit internationally).

I went on holiday to Turkey in August and the bar played 'Ti Amo' every damn night (right after Madonna's 'La Isla Bonita' of course). I got my life over haphazardly poured all-inclusive cocktails.

Sis, the great Mary Kiani has six number ones in Scotland that stayed at the top spot for longer than one of her fake tans. And about eight times the amount of Motiv8 mixes that Gina had. One day I will get Universal to put her album back online...

I'd rather have all her Long Hard Funky Dreams mixes available pleassssseeeee. Loved that era.
Edit: number ones in Scotland. Starts to sound like Mariah Carey's #1's album rules for inclusion.
