Girl Bands in the 'pop' heyday

Thanks for the Thunderbugs link, I was mixing them up with Madasun when I asked about the band with the German guitarist.

Hmm, just been listening to this loads today and thinking the lyrics are a bit morbid - "We'll be like Thelma and Louise"?!

I can't believe no one has come up with this yet!

Yeah Fannypack don't belong here, we should make another thread called Non-Crap Girl Bands in the 'pop' heyday with Fannypack, Sweetback, Leona Naess, Lamya, Res, Esthero, Nikka Costa girl etc.

Erm...what about the wonderful N-Tyce?!?! Boom Boom anyone!!? We Come To Party?! TELEFUNKIN'??!?

Is it sad that I have the albums of them, Solid Harmonie, Precious, Madasun, Honeyz and Hepburn....?!!

They are all SOO good.

As for Vanilla - did anyone hear their follow up to No Way, No Way? It was called True To Us and was equally dire.

Supersister - well I liked the three singles, my favourite being Shopping thanks to the lines, "I know it sounds so corny, but shopping really makes me horny" and "And I won't take a second look, until you put your signature on that cheque book"!!

I think Hepburn and Madasun released relatively credible first singles but Hepburn followed up I Quit with Bugs, which was awful and then Deep Deep Down, which was maybe too dark for the core audience. Madasun released two great first singles, but the second and third flopped big time, so bye bye.

As for Crush - fucking love them. Luv'd Up and Jellyhead are classics.

Does anyone remember West End who I remember performed once on the Big Breakfast's Eggs On Legs tour, and did a song called Love Rules. That is amazing...took a while to track that one down.

Dear God, then you have [email protected]. Flee Fly Fuck Off...

"Talk To The Hand" by the Honeyz was pretty good but I don't think it ever officially got released.

Oddly they were playing "Wonder Number 8" at the hairdressers last time I had my tuppence waxed.

I still play that cd. The Honeyz were great like all British pop in the 90s.

Oh I remember "Thunderbugs" the girl with the glasses is well gorgeous!!! and the song actually is pretty good, I think like "Hepburn" who were also pretty good they suffered with having a big top 10 hit and then not being able to match it with the follow ups.

Big shame because I think both groups could have been huge given the right songs.

They did release a couple of terrible singles ("24Seven" and "Single" for example) but "Rough Enough" and "Joyful Life" were brilliant. I own their album and it's good. Especially for a Swedish pop band back then since Swedish songwriters always gave their greatest songs to UK/US acts. A lot of girls in my school were fans of them, they were fairly big here in Sweden. Five top 20 hits if I remember correctly!

Nice compilation (could have done with some decent mixing though), think I could name about 99% of them..

Don't know much about Tymes 4, but this was a tune!

Or we could go on tour singing flopped early 00's tracks and people would be like "Wow, they write some amazing songs"

Dazzle, it dawned on me the other day: Booty Luv sadly beat us to the punch...

for some odd reason i did buy the girls@play 'airhead' cd single ... i must've been 17 shades of bored that day!

Both of their singles were shite. However, they put a track on a Smash Hits! freebie CD and it's really not bad at all! 'Outta My Head'. There's a load of unreleased tracks, too...

Does anyone remember SuperSister? They were a really cheesey trio girl group from Sheffield I think. They sang "I like my man, like I like my coffee. Hot, strong and sweet like toffee" haha

I bought the single when it came out years ago. Sold it recently on ebay for £15 was very bizarre! I didn't think anyone would buy it!

EEEK! the video is on youtube:

I saw them live at Powerhouse in Newcastle. They did 3 songs, basically, their three singles. They were alright...

The Hepburn genius moments can be on their B-sides. They did two great dancey tracks in contrast to the guitary chick a-sides and album tracks. 'In Case You Forget' can be found on CD2 of 'Bugs' and 'Cold World' is on CD2 of 'I Quit'. No one mentioned they lost a member and replced her without anyone really noticing... fansite;
