Girl Bands in the 'pop' heyday

I don’t know them…

Update:

It’s awful ha.

Lyrically embarrassing and wow… their cover of ‘Kids in America’ - talk about ripping the heart and soul out of a song… they really phoned that one in.

Not for me! And I usually enjoy random girl group albums for the 00s. Sheesh.

I hope they wrote these songs because if they paid professional songwriters to write them I’d be worried. The lyrics are just things that rhyme rather than make sense.

It’s like (and these aren’t the lyrics)

We went for a drive in your car
We went for miles and we drove far
I looked up and saw a shooting star
We stopped off at our local bar
You made me laugh - haha

Was gonna give them a whirl... but maybe i won't. I find most of the US girlbands were not up to the standard of European ones. (especially UK)

It’s strange that most of the US Girl Groups that popped up around 1999-2001 were floppy post-Britney sugary kiddie bubblegum pop and the UK’s only attempt at that kind of pop girl group was Girl Thing even though that was more of a post-Spice copycat attempt.

Even then, Blaque, Eden’s Crush, Dream, and 3LW were the only new US girl groups to (somewhat) break through during that era and none of them were exactly a runaway success in the long run.

The Excellence album is pretty strong. It’s exactly what the girlband winner of Swedish Popstars should sound like.

The only thing is that none of the girls have a distinctive voice and they all of all blend into one.

Pretty good album - and was just totally floored to learn they also recorded Me Myself and I.
Somewhat anaemic compared to Scandal'us's version.

The Madasun album is actually fine?

Might be better than Made in London’s album. Nothing really stands out much but it is pretty well produced.

“Feel Good” was the wrong choice for a single, though. “All I Want” or “Don’t Hate Me” would’ve been better options. The songs they actually wrote are also more interesting than the ones that they didn’t. Maybe they should’ve gotten another chance with the canceled release of “Turnaround” but if the album and other singles didn’t make a dent then it is best to cut their losses.

The title track The Way It Is is gorgeous

I love Get Away as a basic ballad. Agree Feel Good was a poor choice of single but they should have released the album after Walk on Water.

Don't You Worry is obviously the standout from the album, and still holds up today. Such a well put together track.

A shame it was released during one of the most competitive and biggest selling chart weeks of 2000 - a week earlier or later and on the same sales it probably would have snuck into the top 10. (I have a bugbear about that chart week as Honeyz went in at #7 on sales that should given them a top 5 and potentially top 3 hit - the figures for that week were huge with loads of big new entries).

I wish more people remembered them as I'd love a one off Hoopla reunion!
