Girls Aloud - Future Plans

It always baffles me aswell when artists don’t remember a song they’ve recorded that hasn’t been released or even worse when they don’t remember an album track that’s actually been released on your own album or remember the correct title of the song

Crazy to me

Same thing when they mix dates or the order of some albums' releases. Some of my fave do and it baffles me too.

It's never been all that surprising to me that they don't have 'interest' in their own music.
When they came together, they all said how much they loved R&B, etc. And the way Xenomania put their tracks together... I guess they just sang random bits here and there and never really knew what was going to become of it until the release of the album (and can imagine even they didn't know who was singing what line sometimes like us). I'm sure they have a few favourite 'deep cuts' but I doubt they even remember a word of songs like I'm Falling, etc.

You have to remember how quickly all of these albums were also released in succession and how small a percentage of their lives the album recording and curation process ultimately took.

I truly wouldn’t blame them for only (mostly) knowing just their singles with how much of an album’s release cycle and the charts really revolved around those back then on all of those TV show performances. Oh, and the 20~ years happening between now and their discography.

Plus it’s not even like their first couple of tours were even long enough that I could be like “but they performed those album tracks so many times, how could they forget them?”. Nope, Chemistry will forever only have 10 dates and I’ve not even factored in what percentage of tour shows had them playing their various cover songs.

That's why it always amazes me how Mariah knows her discography better than any lamb. But that also goes by the fact she's heavily involved from start to end.

Pop bands, and even more so the ones that work with Xenomania and their piece-meal approach to song creation, would struggle more to remember everything.

Still a kii... dd

Yeah I’m not overly surprised when people get their discography wrong, especially Girls Aloud after knowing what their recording process is.
Didn’t they say that they usually have no idea what the song sounds like until it’s been pieced together and given the final product? Recording multiple versions of the same song with different lyrics or probably given a few lines to sing not knowing what song it was going to end up on etc

From that interview that didn’t air, they spoke about how the recording process was,

"It was funny, we'd chat between ourselves when the CD arrived. 'Did you sing this bit? What happened to that verse?'" says Kimberley.

"There are songs that still stick in my head that never saw the light of day," observes Nadine, who bursts into a discarded line from Wake Me Up: "Easy tiger/What's been going on?"

I'd still love to challenge some of my favorite artists to reciting their album tracklists. Just for a laugh.

Before Spotify I had Mariah's entire catalogue memorised. I could've recited the tracklists in correct sequence along with the track run times... and maybe even the writer/producer credits. These days it's very rare that I don't edit the sequence and/or add/remove stuff for my own playlist versions of albums. They've pretty much become the 'real' versions for me now.

They’re really just work projects at the end of the day. Even for the ~Real~ Artistes™, if they’re on a big label they still need to deal with the higher ups for approval.

It seems so easy and light between them now. The group is now just a fun outlet full of great memories rather than a burden. It's a shame they had to take such a hard route there, but it's good to see. They fundamentally worked because they worked well together, and they seem to do that better than ever.

Honestly, I don't think I ever need new music. What we got was perfect. The fact they're out there and realise that the group can be this eternal thing that doesn't need to end but can easily be put down for a while and picked back up whenever is just nice. That they're out there doing their thing is enough.
