Girls Aloud - Future Plans

Love that I decided to finally catch up on The Girls Aloud Show on ITV at 11:45pm after I was a bottle of wine deep. My poor neighbours.

What a show that was. Every song is an iconic bop.

I really think a Glastonbury slot this year would’ve cemented them as British pop icons but totally understand that the Liam situation has put plans on hold for a bit. (Although if Olivia Rodrigo is headlining the Sunday, they would’ve smashed the slot before her)

I've said it before but honestly if you just look at I'm Falling as the kind of song you'd see performed on tour as a member introduction kind of thing withdance breakdowns littered throughout it makes sense, I really don't think it's weird. Of course it doesn't really make sense for GA as bar Cheryl none are like super technical dancers that could do choreo for a song like it but it does make sense lol

I don't even remember how Money goes.

I guess that's my thing with it. It feels more like an interlude or an experimental instrumental featuring the girls than a proper song?

Yeah, this I completely understand! It's its own thing and doesn't really stack up to the rest of the GA canon, and feels even more out of its depth in the context of Tangled Up (though it doesn't feel out of place sonically?)

Not just out of its depth for me but also.. out of place?
I'm not sure. Its interludeness may have worked better after something like Swinging London Town then where it is. It's fine, I don't hate it, I'd just never seek it out either.

What I would have liked for Girls Aloud’s albums is more cohesion and interludes between the tracks like Agnès’ last album, Lady Gaga’s Chromatica, Madonna’s Confessions…

Their track lists have always been a mess. Why didn’t they open Tangled Up with Sexy with the long intro and kept the edit version for the single release?

You can say that again. Cold ending or no go!

Not to veer offtopic but Pizzicato Five did it best : Single edits had the fade outs, all album versions had full on cold endings, were rearranged entirely or segued into other tracks.

The instrumental of 'I'm Falling' always puts me in mind of some industrial factory and the squelchy sounds on it like aliens trying to communicate. Then you have the girls sounding like they are singing through walkie-talkies about how trapped they feel in their lives and escaping. Fucking bonkers and I adore it!

The only weird thing about I'm Falling is that it's very Sarah, yet she's not on it.
It also should've been the last song on Tangled Up. I don't like it when an album ends on a song with a fade out.

I'd never really noticed Sarah wasn't on it. How strange.

The bridge about lack of passion/twisted little sister part is brilliant! As is the va va voom bit.

It's been a few years since I've heard What Will the Neighbours Say in full and I forgot what an incredible pop album it was! Graffiti My Sole is the single that never was. Forgot about how great Deadline Diets and Real Life are. For me their best album which could have ended at track 11. I'm playing Out of Control next as I played that out back in 2008...
