Gladiators Reboot (BBC)

I've only seen clips of the Sky version. Outside of the legends episodes.

I hope that they allow the Gladiators to me more themselves, and maybe only have 1 panto villain. The sky version seemed to have all the Gladiators having a bad attitude. They need to be either likeable or someone you love to hate like Wolf. The ones so far to be revealed seem to be more like the original so I am happy to far.

I am not sure how health and safety works these days but I hope it's either crash mats or nets like they had for Pendulum or Tightrope rather than a swimming pool.

It seems they are bringing back a few iconic events. I've heard Powerball, Duel and The Wall all mentioned. Hopefully anything new is good too.

I hope they take a lot of inspiration from the ITV Eliminator course. As although they changed elements over the years it basically stayed the same over all the seasons.

I hope they don't lean too much into nostalgia, it's good to have hints of the past but it needs to be a show for 2023 not 1993. So I hope they don't cast either Scorpio or Wolf's children as Gladiators as I know they have both said they want to do it, but I'm not sure it would be the wisest decision.

I think some of the Gladiators were actually of a good calibre and could stand up to the original team in terms of ability and performance, particularly a number of the female Gladiators. Having said that, yes, the hammy panto villain character so many of them had became so grating that it was hard, not to mention embarrassing, to watch.

I have hopes that this will be good, just not sure it will translate well to 2023, but we’ll see. The Glads they have introduced so far look the part, even if some of the names are a bit pants. I’m hoping they bring back Hang Tough to the pool of events which was almost as iconic as Duel and Powerball. Not sure about Roman and Bradley being presenters, but at least they are names so that will help the show’s profile.

The show needs iconic visuals. That was lacking in the Sky reboot with dark costumes and this 'Gladiator' theme which didn't really work for me. It needs to be bold and bright. It needs to being back that prime time Saturday night family fun show vibe.

I’m so glad this reboot will be held in arena. The sky version in that pokey studio just didn’t have the epic audience atmosphere present for the OG series.

I was fortunate to attend the taping of a few shows in the 90’s. It was so exciting, plus I was able to meet many of the Gladiators backstage. I was a bit scared of them (I was young - and they were huge!) but they were all so so friendly. The show holds a lot of nostalgia for me, as I’m sure it does many, I have everything crossed for the new series to be a success.

Yeah. I think I was hoping for more iconic-looking costumes but I suppose they have done a good job with each of them having those Power Ranger coin-like logos and not making it look too dated. Hopefully they'll all be able to showcase their personalities too and just make it a lot more enjoyable than whatever that Sky reboot was.

I wonder whether costs might have been a factor in emblems not being the feature of the outfits as they were expensive to do back in the 90s hence being removed for the final two series.

A lot of this group look mean and moody, but hopefully that’s just for the photos and publicity and they’ll be different onscreen.

The original series was a staple in our house when I was a kid but I feel like Ninja Warrior has captured the essence of that so this reboot seems redundant, to me at least.

The costumes are like if the original UK and original Australian versions had a baby. Keeping the colours and some markings of the UK and taking the shiny material from the Aussies without looking like tinfoil.

I won't put any thirsty comments here yet ddd.

Let's hope for it not being over water and hope the contenders are of a decent level.

What are we hoping for the contender outfits? The pink and yellow / red and blue of the original? Or just red and blue of the reboot?

I know the US originally had black and white costumes.

I did like the more form fitting costumes the Australian version has in its original run.

Apparently the ticket merchant screwed up though by over-allocating by so much that thousands of people were turned away
