I'm glad this era isn't over yet. The Systemagic video was such a non-event.
She's too cute and beautiful in that Q&A.
She really was. She was glowing in that interview. She seemed like a completely different person in comparison to the Supernatural era Alison.
Like how can ALL of their discography songs sound good?! its like beyond me.
I was wondering..
Do you guys prefer Ooh La La or Strict Machine?
"Ooh La La" but I think I'm in the minority.
I wanted to jump at Strict Machine, but then Ooh La La is less obvious and it's sorta more cool.
Strict Machine. Grittier, more in-your-face. More interesting melody.
I've always absolutely loved both Strict Machine and Ooh La La, but I do remember I used to see Ooh La La as the inferior version. Over the years I've come to appreciate Ooh La La a lot more, especially after I got into glam rock and T. Rex and all that Studio 54 type of stuff that the song beautifully homages. Still, objectively I'd say Strict Machine is better based on how original it is, how influential it was at the time, and how much it meant for Goldfrapp back then when they decided to shift their sound towards dance music.
They're both 10/10 obviously. I just bop to "Ooh La La" more at this point. Yes, the glam rock touches really hit my sweet spot.
Are they a good live act?
I suppose it depends on the era. They were getting shit reviews during Head First, but they have bounced back since then.
The two filmed shows included on their Wonderful Electric DVD are some of the best officially released concerts I've ever watched. Sonically incredible and it's got many iconic moments.
They were great during the Head First era too. It wasn't as high budget as the Supernature and Seventh Tree tours but it was fine. I dunno why they got such blowback.
All of this talk about Strict Machine just reminded me of this gem:
I C O N I C.
The biggest kii was listening to Black Cherry for the first time and realizing I had heard at least half of the album already from a bunch of random commercials.
Best concert I have seen so far this year, and I go to a lot of shows!
