Grey's Anatomy Universe

Maggie could fly to Boston with all the other attendings because of a medical emergency... like a Kathrine emergency: it looks like she's flyting to Boston with Richard. Why would she ?
Another finale with a wedding that's supposed to happen ? Nice to have all those references to prev storyline, but I would like something new for S20

This season has been so fun, I'm really excited to see how they wrap it up. Apparently Krista and Meg are co-writing the finale, so I feel like it's going to be an interesting mix of closure/pay-off and opening up brand new stories for next year.

I'm really confused about what could possibly be going on in Boston that would end in a big cliffhanger. My guesses are still something related to Catherine, and maybe she wanted Jackson & April left out of it until they figure out what's going on with her?

Either way, I love the idea of all these big group dynamics playing out at once - the interns + Helm (and presumably Schmitt?) at the wedding, Jo/Link/Teddy/Owen at the hospital (guessing working on Sam?), and then Mer, Amelia, Nick, Winston, Richard, Bailey, and Catherine all together in Boston, likely with Maggie as well.

This will end up going down as the best season (or at least the most fun and cohesive) since 14, which I'm quite impressed with. And it has me really hopeful for the future of the show, too.

ABC announced today that, due to the writers strike, Grey's, Station 19, and literally every other scripted series will be held until mid-season - meaning that after this Thursday, Grey's won't return until January 2024, at the earliest.

I've seen lots of speculation that the new lineup will be:

8pm - 911
9pm - Station 19
10pm - Grey's

I feel like, rather than complimenting each other, that lineup would just highlight when one of the shows is going through a rough patch/episode.

911 would be better utilised anchoring a weaker night/supporting a new show.

Scream at them ruining the cliffhanger before the episode even aired! I'm glad Teddy isn't being killed off by a toothache, though. I've really loved watching her settle into her role as chief.

That was a solid finale and a great cap to a super fun, transitional season for the show.

- Simone and Lucas have killer chemistry, and the fandom seems to love them. The writers did a great job of developing them both as interesting characters separately, so it makes rooting for them together even better (I especially love Lucas lately). Her walking into the hospital in her hideous wedding dress to get dicked down by Lucas in an on-call room felt so over-the-top old-school Grey's in the best way.
- Bailey getting the Harper Avery was such a cute surprise, especially being presented by Mer. It was a really nice cap to what was a super strong storyline for Bailey this year.
- Yas at Jo & Link finally admitting they're in love. Honestly, nothing else to say there. Just glad it happened.
- Richard PUT DOWN THE DAMN DRINK! I think they did a good job of having him sort of suffer in silence this year; Catherine's cancer returned, Meredith & Maggie both left, the hospital has been moving on from his teaching... it felt like him turning to alcohol again was realistic VS stunty. I'm interested to see how they get into it next year.
- Mer & Nick's reunion felt inevitable. I'm truthfully more interested in her Alzheimer's study, but I'm glad that she's gotten her 'happy' ending. Things are definitely still very open-ended with her, so I expect we'll see her next year. Amelia feeling like Mer is undoing Derek's work is an angle I didn't anticipate.
- I assume we're going to see Nick exit for Boston early next year? Shame, because I loved him mentoring Lucas.
- Maggie & Winston staying married is so strange... will he just not date next year? Where the heck do they go from here? Their chemistry is admittedly still so great, but I thought they'd mutually decide to divorce.
- Helm and Mika are actually super cute. I'm into them as a couple... I wonder if Helm will be upped to a regular?
- Kwan has become one of my favorites, I loved how he handled everything last night, despite massively fucking up with Max's DNR. I hope we get to explore him and Jules as a couple relatively soon. They have great chemistry, and I really enjoy her character, too. I was pleasantly surprised that Max survived.

Looks like we're moving into season 20 with the entire existing cast intact, minus maybe Nick. I'd say that, overall, Amelia and Schmitt got the least to do this year, so I'm eager to see where the new showrunner decides to go with them. Schmitt & Helm being co-chief residents will be fun, I think.

Amelia is a real mystery story-wise for me... Link is taken, Kai is gone. What's next for her?

55k likes? Not them turning on my girl Ellen. Judging from the comments a lot of people built judgements about her based on the Denzel story that went viral a while ago.

Their segment is out tomorrow which is exciting.

So Ellen was clearly frustrated with how the Mer/Nick storyline went in season 19 (same, sis!) - it's interesting that she didn't get to have more say in how it'd go. She does seem excited about the Alzheimer's storyline, and she says "I will be making some appearances hopefully next year if I can find some time." Her Hulu series begins shooting in September, so maybe a premiere guest spot and then much later in the season? I guess a lot will depend on the writers strike, too.

The interview was wonderful and I loved seeing them together. I’m glad there’s no ill will and Ellen even gave Katherine her props for voicing back then how toxic the sets working conditions were.

I really would love to see Izzie return to Greys just once but I think with where the show is now, that ship has sailed.

Picture this: for the first 7 episodes of season 20, we follow Catherine's continued battle with cancer. It's getting more serious, and she doesn't want treatment. In a last-ditch effort to save her, Richard calls Meredith to see if she'll talk to Catherine, or if she has any suggestions.

Episode 8 (our mid-season premiere) opens with Meredith walking into the Chief's office; Teddy is back after recovering from her killer toothache. She asks why Meredith is there. Mer tells Teddy that she has assembled a team to help Catherine. "What team?", Teddy asks. We hear stilettos walking in behind Mer...

All of us explode from the sheer gag of it, so it doesn't even matter what happens next.

I can’t say I’m here for the Grey’s fanfic, but I thought that was the meatiest Actors on Actors interview that’s ever been done. Actual opinions, unique experiences, a willingness to go there. Actually, can’t think of another one like that.

The issue with that is Ellen likely won't be able to appear if the strike goes on long enough. She doesn't have a contract for Grey's yet, so she'll have to fulfill the contract for her Hulu show first. That was supposed to begin filming in September, but at this rate who knows - and if it overlaps with Grey's filming, she'll either not have time or we'll be lucky to get an episode or 2 with her. I worry that the same will be true for Kate Walsh, who likely has existing contracts to fulfill before she could sign on for more Grey's. The smaller the filming window is, the less likely we are to get returnees.

Just bringing this over from the Writers Strike thread. With so many projects up in the air and likely to get scrapped or cancelled, I do wonder what'll actually come of Ellen's show as the strike looms on. They're both projects under the Disney umbrella so it's possible they'll find a way for her to do both, especially if Grey's is only a couple of episodes. I imagine they'll want her for the premiere.

All I know is that Grey's is undoubtedly going to get a huge marketing push from ABC for its ~landmark 20th season~.

It's gonna be really interesting to see what network TV looks like coming back from this. It's almost certainly going to tank newer shows, but I do agree that ABC will put a big push behind Grey's because, even though it will definitely deteriorate, the name/brand recognition that Grey's has is ABCs best bet coming back from a massive break.

I actually feel like it may be a good thing for Grey's (not that I'm happy the strike is happening, to be clear). But if I'm looking on the bright side, the show has been going non-stop for 19 years. Giving fans a chance to miss it a bit, and giving the writers and cast a bit of a breather, may actually help refresh things.

Especially given how strong season 19 ended up being, I'm hopeful about what 20 will look like. My one big worry is the above... whether they'll be able to get Ellen, Kate or any other potential returnees with such limited amount of episodes. At this rate, I'm guessing we'll be lucky to get a 12 episode season. By this point last year, they'd already begun announcing the casting of the new interns.

They could also add more people (alongside Meredith, Addison, Jackson, and April) into the rotation of returnees as well if they can, with Bailey and Richard as the connectors/root of why people are asked back. I think JCap would be willing to come back, and they could definitely do an appearance with just her even if Sara is busy if it revolves around a case. Also would love some Private Practice peeps to visit via Amelia.

Appearances from Callie and Arizona are so long overdue. Ideally, I'd love to see them show up together, but I'll take what I can get. I think Jessica would happily do a few episodes - she and Camilla are still super close, and she always talks so fondly about the show and the cast, so it almost feels inevitable.

I'd really, really love an appearance from Sara, though. I loved Callie so much and her ending felt so incomplete. It'd be so nice to get to see her catch up with Richard, Bailey and even Owen (ideally Mer is there, too!).

(Getting Sara and Kate Walsh together for a Callison reunion would be even more amazing, but I'm getting greedy dd.)
