Grey's Anatomy Universe

It seems like either he'll have to be tied to a specific patient storyline or be part of Levi's exit, which probably makes the most sense. The character description makes that seem even more likely...

"He holds a special place in his heart for his younger patients, and his warmth, training and spirituality make him comfortable and confident in any situation. In his personal life, James finds himself at a crossroads where he is open to love and taking great leaps of faith.”

Working with pediatric patients and being open to love? I think we may have Levi's endgame here.

I think it’s Levi way out. So, we’re losing 3 queer characters during S21.
We're not losing a third queer character who doesn't even exist yet and is clearly never intended to be part of the main cast. By nature, he will at some point leave after his arc is done - like 99.9% of other guest stars.

Setting up this idea that the writers are doing something awful by writing him off when we know he isn't being written to stick around is just setting fans up with a random reason to complain.

He is not gonna be in 1 or 2 episodes, he's a recurring character of S21. So, 3 queer characters in S21 are not gonna be in S22. I'm not complaing, I'm stating a fact. There's a difference between guest star, recurring and main character

Recurring guest star. Like patients who are in multiple episodes. I just think it's odd to point out that we'll be 'losing' a character who we know is literally being written for a short amount of time, especially when it's framed as, "were going to be losing so many queer characters!" It doesn't make sense.

The way the articles on the new character read to me were as a little bit of an appeasement at Levi being written out. Not sure if that was the intention but it seemed to come out at the same time to “soften the blow” of losing two LGBTQ+ characters?

Of course it’d be nice to see Schmitt have a happy ending after they (rightfully) split him and Nico up, it would just be nice if they’d put some effort into setting it up before now.

Kevin McKidd knows it won't be smooth sailing for his character Owen Hunt and his wife Teddy Altman when Grey’s Anatomy returns for its 21st season.

“It's a rocky road for them to come back to the hospital,” he teased. “It's a lot of fun when it happens.”

“I can't say too much about it, but it causes some tension between Teddy and Owen as well,” he added. “Because there's been some decisions made, but I think they're going to fight through it. But it's a little bit rocky for a little moment.
Another rocky road for Teddy & Owen?

We could also be getting some new tidbits shortly, as they're about to do a panel at D23. Chandra, James, Camilla, Chris, Kevin, Kim, and Jason are all on the panel.

It didn't come out at the same time, though. Levi & Yasuda's exits were announced in mid-May, before season 20 even wrapped. The news of a gay chaplain being cast broke 2 months later, in mid-July, which is when we always start to get casting information. The angle is just something that TVLine and other outlets latched onto because it was good framing for a story.

Anyway, I just think it's all kind of a... non-event. Grey's lets go of characters all the time. There's still a ton of queer representation on the show, and if this character is joining as a way to give Levi a happy exit, I'd be quite happy. He's not my favorite character by any stretch, but he's easy to root for and he's an important part of Grey's history at this point. He deserves a nice exit, and it'd be very sweet to finally see him find a deserving partner.

TvLine says 5. I really hope it‘s “at least”, cos 4 out of 10 is 40%, 5 out of 18/20 is 25%

That just means that 5 is his guarantee, but it's open to more - the same way Ellen signed for a guarantee of 7 but will likely increase.

I hope they use Scott better this year. I'd love to see him at the center of some kind of classic Grey's disaster/event episode. Even if that doesn't happen, he's such a solid actor that he deserves a personal story that isn't just "chasing Meredith." He has such an interesting backstory that the writers can and should be playing on.

Also, I really want news on Natalie Morales' status soon!

As much as I like Debbie Allen, I think Catherine needs to go along with Teddy and Owen. They're just... there for me. I don't care about them anymore. I feel their stories have been told.
I actually was really enjoying getting to see Teddy as Chief. I'll be kind of sad if she doesn't go back into that position once the dust settles. I think it suited her. I'm not really sure who else could step in at this point?

Unless they bring back Koracick, which I'd be 1000% onboard with.
