Gwen Stefani - "Somebody Else’s” + Bouquet (Nov 15)

I need to dig in deeper, but so far Don't Wait Too Long is the one. And this version of Sparkle is incredible.

Plus with 4 or 5 commercial singles from each album, there was even more opportunity. There wasn't a single b-side released from either, I don't think. I assume Gwen figured anything of substance could be held back and fleshed out for future releases, but aside from Sparkle it didn't really come to pass.
Don't make me start with the NO-Bsides thing, maybe is an US artists/label thing? No Doubt didn't release any b-sides for "Rock Steady".

No Doubt's American label were infamously in the camp of "No physical single, make em buy the album", which then means that the labels in the UK and further afield had to make do with endless live versions and radio sessions for CD single b-sides.

I think for Gwen's 2004-2007 era, it was the early days of the digital market so there wasn't much incentive for her label to cut additional tracks to come out versus remixes and alternative mixes of the A-side. Had her peak run been from 2008 onwards, there would have been more pressure and expectation for them to be releasing deluxe editions and/or a Fame Monster type extension of her album eras.

Having all these songs I've read about for years is honestly surreal. I do think that only Boom and Information (and maybe a beefed up Don't Wait Too Long) would have been worthy of album placement over what did make the cut. And even then, only Breakin' Up, U Started It, and Orange County Girl are expendable to me. Candyland and Carousel are especially mid.

I'm not including the amazing solo Sparkle since I adore the No Doubt version, but it is easily the best of the bunch / stronger than 80% of The Sweet Escape.

Now if those Rock Steady leftovers could make their way out... wig.

So was Carousel for The Sweet Escape unlike this page says?

No, it started its life as a L.A.M.B. demo but was reworked later. There are several versions of the track, the one from this sampler is an early mix (the same goes to "You Started it")
Are there any titles for the leftovers from “Rock Steady”?
I think we only know about "Wicked Day" recorded with The Neptunes that later went to Kelis and "It's a Fight", a song produced by Timbaland.

Also... just randomly because everyone always seems to criticise it, does anyone actually like Breakin' Up? I remember when I first bought the CD it was an instant favourite of mine fff

I return to other tracks way more nowadays, but I still don't think it's awful.
When I got the album I really enjoyed it teebs. It sounds very dated now but it's not awful!

How are these leaking now? Or have I missed these all these years.

1. Information should have been released on the L.A.M.B. anniversary edition. It would fit the album perfectly.
2. Fine By You is quintessential Gwen! How was this recorded and left off? I mean, we have Breaking Up taking up precious album space!
3. BOOM sounds like a sibling to Crash, but the latter is the better song. Still, this should have been included on the anniversary edition.
4. Carousel sounds like a Pharrell production. It not groundbreaking, but it's nice that we got to hear it.
5. Don't Wait Too Long has the bones for a great song, but this demo is just okay.
6. Having heard the No Doubt version of Sparkle, I honestly don't care too much for the demo. I may be in minority here, but the No Doubt version is better than this.
7. Candyland is one of those legendary demos that so many of us have wanted to hear - but it is terribly underwhelming! Guessing the horn sample was Gwen's choice but wasn't cleared? I loved that "get someone to call the fire department" callout too... and the way the post-chorus was structured on the original leak. Can someone mix the two demos?

EDIT
"Circle My Sun" (from the scrapped reggae/ska album) is out there too!

OH THIS IS SO GOOD! She should really have stuck with the reggae/ska concept.

I love “Candyland” actually. Honestly was even better than I expected. Also the horn sample was only ever for the fashion show. There was never an original leak, it was just a recording from the video of the runway.
I didn't know that! Do you know what that horn sample was? I would love to find the original and add it to this leak.
