Halsey - The Great Impersonator

Based on that I really hope she has a few more tricks up her sleeve to get the number one, I guess they could release a digital copy with all the bonuses or maybe even put them all on streaming this week if it’ll help!

I imagine Tyler will probably snatch number one pretty easily just because there's so much hype around his album, but would be great if Halsey got a top 3 spot. Maybe Taylor will throw a tweet out about it like she did with If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power.

I feel like these are pretty solid numbers given there’s no hit carrying this.

At 85k+ this would be a bigger debut than Radical Optimism and also better numbers than If I Can't Have Love... trilled for her.

Honestly the album is a bit too heavy for me for the most part, but the singles and a few tracks like Dog Years, Arsonist and Hometown stuck out, and I have to recognise and respect how much she's been willing to go there. I just don't think the intense focus on death and posing the question "what if I wasn't here anymore?" is necessarily what I want to be consuming too much of. Still she is really far too talented to be considered yesterday's news and the numbers make me happy.

I’m still letting the album settle in my mind but it’s easily her best and most cohesive to date (If I Can’t sounds like two albums smashed together, can’t change my mind!). “Dog Years” is so Live Through This coded and I think I’d kill for a Courtney-inspired record.

But, if I’m discussing best track, “Hurt Feelings” is a little too relatable and how ironic that “Lucky” follows it up. Going from the feeling of missing out on integral childhood things to questioning why you’re emotional if you have so much to be grateful for while enduring some heavy ass shit?

The sequencing is top tier too.

I had only listened to The End and Lucky before this came out cause I hadn't been keeping up with the releases and hadn't seen much info at all and only saw a few of the impersonations so I pretty much went in as blind as possible.

I'm absolutely blown away. I wasn't fully prepared for how heavy this is but I never felt weighed down by any of it. I've listened a few times now and it's absolutely brilliant front to back. I wasn't expecting something that could surpass If I Can't Have Love, but I shouldn't have doubted them cause they truly have just gotten better with each album. There's so much to say and unpack in this but for now I'm just gonna highlight my definite faves
Ego (kinda hate myself for missing out on this one earlier this year but I'm obsessed, exactly the kind of song I love)
Panic Attack
Hometown
I Never Loved You
Lonely Is The Muse (see above re: Ego dddd)
Life Of The Spider (Draft) (OUCH)
Hurt Feelings
Alice Of The Upper Class
Lessons

Also the ones that need to grow a bit more
I Believe In Magic
Darwinism
Arsonist
There's not a song I dislike though, and I'm sure each one will continue to grow on me.

This year truly has been insane for music.

They liked Lonely is the Muse, The End and the interludes. It's an unfair score, while the album is not perfect (aside that I really like it) they would've given a 6.0 minimum.

It's a hate crime this is now the 2nd lowest score this year from Pitchfork.
