Happy Valley

I just hope that Ann's rant at Ryan (although really harsh dd) got through to him and he finally has no interest to associate with his father. Maybe he will have a hand in taking Tommy down?

I can see why Catherine is annoyed with Clare for helping Ryan visit him, but at the same time he would've likely found a way to go anyway like he found a way to attend court instead of going to school.

Can't wait for the next episode!

I dont see Catherine and Clare making up sadly and worry that maybe Clare may die/ get shot at the hands of Tommy, in an attempt to stop Ryan.

I just can't see it being as simple as Tommy dies and everybody lives happily ever after.

It needed 6 episodes rather than 5. For a happy ending at least. I can't see how they can rap everything up, done, finished, no more, in 60 minutes.

There are 6. The sixth and final episode is on this Sunday and I'm sure I read somewhere it's about an hour and 10 minutes.

Oh no, what (or should I say who) is he kicking?

The more I think about it, after their fight during the last episode I have this terrible feeling he's going to end up killing Clare before her and Catherine have the chance to make up. I hope I'm wrong because I will actually scream at the television!

I’m not watching the trailer, but I agree it’s not going to be so simple. I had been thinking Richard would be a goner (the ‘I really feel like I must go to this trial!’ was really the only super heavy handed dialogue I wasn’t that sold on, and I guess he still could, as there’s got to be some point of this whole getting an interview with Darius thing, not just ‘it got cancelled’) but now I am mostly worried Clare is going to meet her maker and Catherine will have spent her last days being horrible to her :(

Interesting that Sarah Lancashire wasn't happy with the ending so Sally Wainwright re-wrote the ending.

Oh that's interesting! I listened to that BBC Obsessed With Happy Valley podcast which had an interview with Charlie Murphy, who plays Ann Gallagher. She said Sally released the scripts a few at a time and was still working on the later episodes while they were reading the early ones.

I'm so looking forward to the finale, but also don't really want it to end!

Is there a Sarah Lancashire interview about this??
I've found it strange how absent Sarah has been from any sort of promotion. It's all been James Norton.
It seems she rarely gives interview for anything at all.

It was on Metro yesterday, taken from an interview that James Norton did with The Big Issue...

James Norton has revealed Sarah Lancashire actually convinced Sally Wainwright to change the ending of Happy Valley.
The exceptional police drama will come to an end on Sunday night, with the explosive trailer teasing the final showdown between Lancashire’s Sergeant Catherine Cawood and her arch-nemesis Tommy Lee Royce (Norton). Norton and Lancashire were both the first to read the scripts for the last ever episode, and the former Corrie actress had some thoughts.

'We had one version of the end that didn’t feel quite right,’ Norton told The Big Issue. ‘Sally knew it and Sarah spoke up and said it doesn’t feel right. A month later, we got a new script and it all fell into place. It was magical.’
The actor also admitted he’s not ready for it to end and if it was down to him Happy Valley would ‘keep going’. ‘But deep down I’m with Sally. This is the right call. So I hope the ending doesn’t disappoint,’ he added.

It was reported the cast had filmed multiple endings so that no one knew how it will all end until the viewers at home did too.

Regardless of whether we believe in the Almighty above, can we please form an urgent prayer circle for our beloved Catherine in the hope our pleas for her survival are answered?

I don't really know what i want to happen and what would be a satisfying and exciting ending. Tommy dying is a given wish for the ending but is that enough?.

Is anyone else not quite sure how they feel after that?

The majority of the episode was absolutely fantastic and I am beyond glad that Catherine, Clare and Ryan all got somewhat of a happy ending, but the "showdown" between Catherine and Tommy felt very... underwhelming after the intense hatred between them which we've endured for the past 9 years. Part of me is glad that they didn't go down the cliché route of a physical showdown and they used it to explore a tiny glimpse of redemption and the audience maybe mustering some sympathy for Tommy, but I can't help but still feel slightly underwhelmed that this is it.

All in all though, Catherine is now headed out for her retirement road trip and that was the ultimate ending I wanted since the series started, so I can't complain too much.

Goodbye, Catherine Cawood, you absolute icon.
