Hilary Duff

This is going to sound like I'm being dismissive of her artistic abilities - and thats not necessarily my intention - but I don't really think Hilary Duff needs to be inspired or have her whole heart in it to make a great album. Breathe In Breathe Out ended up being so great largely because RCA sent her to Sweden to make a dance album. Matthew just needs to give her some fun breezy pop songs. Breathe In Breathe Out is exactly the right template. She has a voice that best suits dance songs and lighter pop.

While I agree with you, I think she's a good songwriter. I felt that she gave up mid-way of promoting BIBO largely to losing creative control. While those songs were great, she sounded defeated and said that if she were ever to tour it would be for an album worth touring for.

I actually really like the This Heart leaks from the scraped album and I think the songs from that era that made Breathe In. Breathe Out. aren't as strong.

Carry On and Summer Heat (Feel Alive) both would have slotted into the album perfectly and definitely sit in the transition that happens on the album after Stay in Love better than some of the songs that are there.

That was a ramble.

He/Him
The leaks from the This Heart version of Breathe In Breathe Out are decent though. This Heart itself has really nice lyrics.

She really has trouble separating her own tastes with what people want from her. But plenty of artists do that or find a way to compromise. It’s funny that Hilary’s last way of compromising was literally split the album in half with dance pop and folk pop. Plenty of others find a way to enjoy the music they’re making even if it might not be something they’d listen to.

She seems to enjoy writing. Dignity gave her the buzz for it and she wrote tonnes before she got signed to RCA.

With Matthew she could be cutting songs any time she feels like it (for basically free) and uploading them to streaming. She doesn’t really need to put out an album at all or at least until she knows what she wants.

I’m glad to hear she’s considering it again though.

I agreed with that, but I also think she needs to be true to herself and most of the time STOP to read mean comments from her fanbase as I think she most of the time focus on that. I remember back on 2014 when she made that country pop album, she wanted that genre, she wanted that direction and photoshoot, and everything suddenly change (for better I know), but when I listen to that album, it's not that bad too. Actually she's being innovative, most of the instrumentals of those songs are awesome, and it's bizarre that some of our faves gone country just a few months later. I think she need to trust more in herself

I don’t think that was because of her fan base. RCA put out Chasing the Sun and All About You. They did nothing so they went back to the drawing board.

But we also got nothing from BIBO cause… RCA. Another thing for her is to stay away from any Sony label, really

I mean Sparks didn't actually do any better chart wise.

Either Chasing The Sun or All About You out peaked it everywhere.

Chasing The Sun didn't really get any promo either I guess because she moved on to All About You so quickly.

I genuinely think the first half of Breathe in Breathe out plus Nights Like This make the best EP that could be served by an ex Disney girl.

I think if she’s happy enough knowing she’ll not be a singles girl, but a “this sold tons of merch, vinyls and decent album sales” girl and put on a cute small venue tour then she’d have a brilliant time on the promo cycle I think.

She and Matthew could make some gorgeous pop that is interesting, introspective and fun. That’s the lane I’d like from her anyway.
