Hilary Duff

Belong is by far my favorite track--I feel like this was the perfect pop / folk range for the album overall (and what the initial album was suppose to be like?). Based on the leaks we got and what ended up on the album from the earlier sessions, I wish we just got the initial album sound right through.

I can't stop spinning this vinyl. The opening scandi-pop adrenaline rush litreally leaves me breathless everytime. Truly relentless, one of the strongest opening runs ever? and after then it doesn't even let up, even it's darker and slower moments are immaculately executed and the whole thing somehow flows really well. The only thing I'd do is trade Nights Like This because men for All About You. Or a fully mastered Hurts, that still could be rescued, Hilary.

A lot of the mixes from her self-titled are different versions from the original CD. Some of later CDs and the vinyl use the alternate mixes as well. You can really hear it on the intros to "Rock This World" and "Jericho."

Is there anywhere I can find out which editions have what?
(So I could possibly just own all version between... 2 copies?)

I got both and there is apparently a code between the two but I have no idea what it is. I just chanced it hearing that the different pressing was around after a certain time and it was right. Some are more different than others.

Is there a length difference to some tracks that could clear it up?
(do they have the same barcode?)

As far as I'm aware (based off of the Discogs listings) - both pressings have the same barcode, but, the Matrix/Runout & the Mastering + Mould SID Codes are different.

I'm all over Discogs as I speak but on a lot of editions there's no mention of 'this includes 'these versions'' so I'm not quite sure yet what I'm searching for.

Oh wait, I just found this one with new versions of Do You Want Me, Haters, Rock This World and Jericho.
Are those the only tracks that changed?

(also gonna have to find out which versions are on the CD I actually own)

Sadly I think the Matrix is the only way to know. It's poorly documented. I've been a Hilary stan since Metamorphosis and I never knew about the different versions until a couple years ago. The biggest time difference I think is my rip of the original "Cry" is 3:48 and the one on streaming (labeled "Remix," the only hint of anything being different) is 4:02.

I can confirm that the Japanese version of the CD is almost definitely going to be the original mixes not on streaming. The obi-strip on my Japanese copy has a promo for Dignity, so it was made no earlier than 2007 and the mixes match my original CD.

What a mess. Why do these alternate versions even exist??

My theory is that Hilary wanted the album to be rockier and it was remixed, but the new mixes didn't make it in time for the first CD pressings. I have no evidence of that, that's just my best guess.

I wish they would make the original version available digitally, but it would probably just confuse people further and this stuff is already poorly documented.

I caught a tiktok of her saying how at this moment in time she’s really happy with the level of fame she has. She said people recognise her but she can still take her kids to school, go to a workout class or go to the grocery store. She said if she was releasing music right now she wouldn’t be able to do any of those things because she would be so super exposed compared to how she is now as an actor.

I think it’s safe to say she has no desire to rekindle her music career, which sucks but at least we got Breathe In, Breathe Out before she checked out.

Y’all are so mean!! But yeah I get what you mean. It’s not like she’d be a streaming force or whatever but I agree that being a musical act requires you to be so much more exposed and accessible. You don’t see actors being asked my management to do random tik-toks or IG lives to promote their shows/movies. I guess she’d feel more ‘ON’ all the time if she were doing music right now.
