A person giving opinions on horror who doesn't think John Carpenter, Wes Craven and George Romero have three classics? He has no clue.
To be fair, that's probably the only way to "win" the discussion, as the guy keeps using different types of arguments to prove how everyone else is wrong - Rotten Tomatoes scores (which is fair, since that's how he "proves" Peele is the best horror director of all time), personal opinions and "it's a trilogy so it only counts as one". Jordan Peele has taste though!
Why do I get the feeling that guy hasn't seen many horrors, just the "popular" ones? Hope the film is better than the terrible book. I hated the characters.
Same for me for the first two thirds (especially the lead), but they kinda 'made sense' come the end. I liked that they Spoiler each became a reflection of a genre archetype: The stoner, the jock, the scholar etc. That was pretty clever stuff. Another short 'theatrical event'? That doesn't bode too well, but it looks better than the last one. Despite Salva's dodgy af past, he created a stunning film with the original.
The original is a perfect film and I enjoyed the Sean Cody-equse sequel. This new one looks really dumb but of course I’ll watch it.
I have come so close to watching the 3rd one so many times but could never pull the trigger. That trailer does seem a bit less SYFY original movie but I'm not sure. I do like that they appear to be emphasizing him in his "clothes" which has always been a super creepy villain look to me. Once we see the full creature it always becomes a bit hard to take seriously.
The first 30 minutes of the original Jeepers Creepers is fantastic after that it becomes very dumb. At least the second one is dumb fun the entire way through. The new one looks fine for what it is I guess.
I enjoyed Bad Moon, having wanted to see it for years, but it's very short. I mean the werewolf and gore is good, it has Dennis in, and that opening is superb, but they could have padded it out with more of a chase at the end, and of course a couple more deaths here or there. 3/5 though.
The movie itself is just ok minus how hot Michael Paré is (woof indeed) but it has my favorite practical werewolf of all time.
Finally caught Werewolves Within, and it wasn't the best, I wanted The Beast Must Die in a log cabin, and got, well, even less Beast, and stupidity. Oh well, I'm having a palate cleanse and watching Peedator for the first time in twenty years. Between all those hunks off the chopp-er and the Predator being such a svelte sleek sexy (with mask on) killing machine... Just send me into the jungle Hens.
Figure I might as well ask this, before Nope takes over the thread! Since we're kind of talking about werewolf movies, are there any good ones except the obvious ones? My werewolf fetish is craving more decent movies... Have seen: - The Howling - An American Werewolf in London/Paris - Wolfen - The Beast Must Die - Silver Bullet - Bad Moon - The Underworld movies - Eight For Silver (I refuse to call it The Cursed) - Cursed - Dog Soldiers - The Wolf of Snow Hollow - Werewolves Within - Late Phases - The Wolfman (2010) - Wolf - Ginger Snaps 1 and 2 - The Company of Wolves - Brotherhood of the Wolf (but it doesn't really count) And some others that have several monsters, like Van Helsing and so on... But I'm interested in werewolf movies, preferably ones that classify as horror and aren't horrendously bad. Have I missed any? It feels like I've seen them all...
Soooooo... saw NOPE last night. I loved the performances (Keke is incredible, Brandon too), and I think I liked the movie too, but I can see how this will be divisive. The marketing for it is completely wrong and I fear not doing it any favors. Spoiler: No REAL spoilers, just talking tone but: This doesn't give me horror vibes at all. It's more of a suspense, sci-fi movie. There's no real terror. Parts of it are high-camp and comedy even. In that sense not at all similar to Get Out or Us for me. I feel like I would have enjoyed it much more knowing that going-in and upon re-watches. Spoiler: very minor spoiler The flashback with the ape was the creepiest part but still very PG13 and had little-to-nothing to do with the main plot.
Y'all I'm getting old - I went to see NOPE last night at an 8pm showing and fell asleep right in my seat for a good 25min. Woke up completely confused as to what was going on. Already booked a matinee ticket for tomorrow afternoon to try and give it a proper review. From what I did see I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't really call this one a horror.
