Yeah Beau is Afraid should have stuck with its original title of Disappointment Boulevard, would have been so much more fitting.

I actually really enjoyed the first half for its emphasis on farce, though I didn't think it was justified enough either literally or thematically why the entire world seemed to actively hate Beau so much. The play sequence was...nice, if rather pointless in hindsight - plus the fact that Hayley Squires was given basically nothing to do was a huge misstep. And initially I actually found the sequence at Beau's mother's house really touching, and I was so sure the movie's final moment would have him die at climax like his father which would have made endless amounts of thematic sense.

...But then it just kept going? Oh, Beau hasn't died but Elaine has for some reason. Okay? Also his mum is actually alive and the dead body is actually his nanny who was barely even brought up prior to that moment. Sure...? And also his therapist was working for his mum the whole time and also in the attic there's what could be his father but also maybe his secret twin brother but also maybe a literal other version of himself and also there's a giant penis monster and it's like...Ari dude stop fucking writing???

I didn't even think it was bad at the end of the day - like I said I really enjoyed the first half, and the whole film looks incredible. But it's also infuriating that it could have been so much more effective if Aster showed a little restraint.

Tubi huns, watch Cold Moon. It's very Tubi but has an amazing, amazing kii halfway through that is honestly a new low for horror characters. I honestly need someone to talk about it with because I keep replaying it and it's masterful.

But it turns around and becomes actually pretty gripping viewing. Miss Pie is who we all wish we were.

Horror In The High Desert 2 was very good. Really enjoyed the first one and this was great too. The last 20-30 minutes was so intense. Reminded me of when I first saw The Blair Witch Project at the cinema in 1999. The ending had me gripping my seat. Looking forward to the third as it sets it up, hopefully will answer some questions.

It's an unexpectedly terrific little flick, isn't it? I watched it after reading the gripping source novel by Michael McDowell, and it's an amazingly faithful adaptation, even down to the car models! They really brought it to life in the wildest, most sincere B-movie fashion.

I'm now reading his book "Wicked Stepmother", which reads like an 80s night-time soap, and I'm totally living.
