Horror films

So, Longlegs is a movie.

Hmmm not sure what to say really, I actually enjoyed it and the way it was shot, the setting and the acting was incredible. But the hype didn't ring true to what I watched. It wasn't that scary, it was creepy in places yes but not scary. The scariest parts were the shots of the dolls/devil when they were underneath the black sheet.

Nicolas Cage really made that character so oddly over the top and camp but uncomfortably awkward too, I felt like I wanted to laugh but only because I was so uncomfortable during his scenes... which is spot on for the role.

Similar thoughts. I loved the look, the atmos, how unhinged it all was, Alicia fucking Witt!, but it wasn't scary at all.

I thought the black sheet thing was the devil dropping in to say "hey girl, here's your doll!"

Oh yeah the marketing did it's job for sure.

Yeah it's not a scary film but built the suspense and eerie atmosphere well.

It's been quite a good year so far for the quality of horror films and not the usual cheap type of horror you usually get (not that those can't be entertaining).

Cage looked a bit...

...but was still pretty unsettling without being all-out terrifying.

Helen and her relationship with Barry and Julie is one of the best parts about the film. The growing distance between them after the accident, Helen's failing ambition, having to settle and going back to her hometown to work for her iconically awful sister... It's all very surprisingly tender, human stuff!

Also the fisherman is such a fag for giving her an amazing bob cut! He has made some points

I think the cop was always going to die. Max dying was added in after that hilarious contest where some kid got to write a scene for the movie (which ended up giving us the iconically horrible "what are you waiting fooooor???") while Elsa getting killed off was something they wrote in due to the studio complaining about the Helen chase scene being cut short - I think originally she was supposed to die before reaching the store?
