Horror films

It's been awhile since I watched it, but is the plot hole?

I’ve searched my brain and… I think (this was nearly 25 years ago, so forgive me if this is inaccurate) it’s when she’s been “drugged” and put in the bath and it’s filling up with water… there was a shot of the water almost up to her nose or whatever, then what felt like a minute of other stuff going on, then another shot and the water hadn’t risen!? I feel like that was the point I shouted out!

I also seem to remember that she was actually conscious and biding her time to fight back, so, you know, she probably lifted her head up!!!

Teenage me was enraged, that I do remember…

then another shot and the water hadn’t risen!?
This happens so much in films and TV programmes, like a bomb ticking countdown or a crash, there's a lot of license taken with timing. The Hitchcock homage it was referencing was also guilty of that.

Reading on IMDB the main one was the the 911 phone call he pretended to make. It certainly wouldn't ruin a movie for me.

That stupid “Your wife” scene lives rent free as it was the hook of all the trailers. Tbh, I thought the other actress looked so much like Pfeiffer at the time that it had no effect on me.

And then of course Scary Movie 2 obliterated taking any of it seriously ever again.

Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer are terrific in What Lies Beneath. Both are very attractive yet sometimes their acting hasn't gotten the praise it deserves due to the fact that they both have such star quality but they are excellent actors. Michelle is so frustrating because she is consistently great but works when she chooses. Admirable but still frustrating as a fan.

Also, Robert Zemeckis is a director who I don't give enough credit to. What a filmography: I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Romancing the Stone, Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump, What Lies Beneath, A Christmas Carol 3D and, of course, the greatest film of all time, Death Becomes Her.

What lies beneath is one of my most favourite films ever! Still makes me jump after watching it thousands of times! So brilliant!

Time Cut's decision to play it straight was... probably because Totally Killer beat them to it, but a po-faced time travel slasher pic? No sir.

But it had some genuinely sweet moments.

To this day, I randomly start thinking about season 1 of Channel Zero. I remember it being surprisingly unnerving. Season 2 fell flat, and I never watched seasons 3 and 4 for that reason.

Blade 2 was a lot worse than I remembered. That's probably why this was only my 3rd or 4th time watching it, compared to the first one, which I've seen maybe 10 times (I had a crush on Stephen Dorff when I was younger, okay!). I dread revisiting the third one - I've actually only ever seen it once.

I actually liked season 2 but that series went from good to not very good as the season went on. Some of the scenes still stay with me tho. They had like a dream-like quality to them and are the stuff of nightmares.

I love to luxuriate in What Lies Beneath on an October evening. I've seen it countless times and never absorb any of the plot beause the script is so flimsy, so each time feels like the first watch. The beauty of the film is in its suspense, jumpscares, cinematography and the star power of the leads (and Michelle Pfeiffer's Autumn wardrobe). With that said the last 15 minutes is dare I say iconic cinema.

Blade 2 is quite fun but is a bit long.

Blade 3 is really bad, but nice to see Ryan Reynolds topless and Dominic Purcell being Dracula, phew...

Winona, Anthony, Gary and Sadie are utterly perfect in this camptastic masterpiece.

I adore Blade and really like Blade 2 a lot more than it deserves (Guillermo gave us DIRECTION and PRODUCTION DESIGN).

Blade 3? Everyone knows that the scripts are the shit element of the first two… so who went “hey guys, how about the screenwriter of those also directs the third!?”

Horrific (and not in the good way)
