Horror films

She watched The Exorcist III for the first time last night. It was a bop but a bitsy slow for the first half. I can see why it's a fan fav.
It works so well as a direct sequel to the original, and I prefer it. I love The Exorcist book because of the ambiguity and deeper questions about faith; the movie holds up as kind of goofy and camp for me. But Legion still permeates darkness and anxiety.

It's very dark and brooding. I literally knew nothing of the film aside from the iconic jump scare / Brad being in it, so I really enjoyed it. I think I prefer it to the original as well, because I love the serial killer angle. It was giving When A Stranger Calls Back chais at times too (highly complimentary).

Watched Dario Argento's Opera for the first time this week, all of the kills were really stellar and memorable. The ending and motive were a bit on the weaker side but still one of his better films - that peephole scene was really impressive.
I love Opera and Phenomena. They are absolutely ridiculous but thrilling as well. The lush opening of Phenomenal especially is just a gorgeous set piece. I still consider Deep Red his masterpiece, even over Suspiria for me.

That fucking ending nn.

Absolutely HATED the midnight showing I saw of it at this theater here. One fucking asshole wouldn’t stop making fun of the movie and the crowd indulged him.

I re-watched Revenge because I'm still obsessed with The Substance. Great film overall but I still struggle with the pacing. Very sluggish. The Substance is like a half hour longer yet flies by for me. Still it's so well directed by legend Coralie Fargeat, the score is incredible, the cinematography, the performances, the cringe inducing practical gore effects(that fucking foot scene!) and that EXTENSIVE male nudity was the cherry on top.

Also those earrings are everything. The way the pink popped in the dark ass night scenes!

Nothing on the eventual poster, but interesting to see more of the cropped photos they used.

Reminds me of Flatliners.

The first thing I think of when I think of Revenge is that foot scene, and it makes my right foot hurt. Every time.
