Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

Black Widow is already top 50 on US pop radio.

I can see Black Widow, Work and Change Your Life all hitting #1 in the US.

Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

Lord please let them use the album version of Black Widow for the video.

Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

I've never been able to get past the 'Dark Horse' comparisons, personally. When one song is so clearly modelled off another, I like to think I'm usually able to seperate the two but when the finished product ends of reaking of cynicism and the song it imitates isn't all that to begin with and yet it still manages to feel inferior, there's absolutely nothing to interest me. One of only a few misfires on the album, I must say.

Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

I would have preferred if Iggy had rolled out Work or maybe a different solo single rather than getting another hook girl, and as Mushroom said it's a bit too Dark Horse lite for me, though I do enjoy it. I do like the idea of Iggy ushering in a new UK girl takeover in the US though.

Yet another record:

Iggy Azalea Claims Longest Hot 100 Reign For A Female Rapper With 'Fancy'

Iggy Azalea makes history on the Billboard Hot 100, as "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, rewrites the record for the longest-leading No. 1 by a female rapper. With a sixth week at the summit, she passes Lil' Kim, who spent five weeks at No. 1 with the all-star collaboration "Lady Marmalade" in 2001.

With her sixth week at No. 1, Azalea now stands alone atop the exclusive list of female rappers who've spent the most time in the lead. Here's an updated look at the mere four such No. 1s, ranked by most weeks on top:

6 weeks, "Fancy," Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX, 2014
5 weeks, "Lady Marmalade," Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya and P!nk, 2001
2 weeks, "Doo Wop (That Thing)," Lauryn Hill, 1998
1 week, "Stand Up," Ludacris featuring Shawnna, 2003

Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

She's coming to my town (Milwaukee, WI) October 19th so I imagine a new tour is coming this fall in the US!

Quite disappointed they're not going for Work in the US. I guess it makes sense, she can tackle the world all at once instead of two singles for separate territories. Still, I hope Work gets its chance to shine afterwards.

Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

Glad she decided to be the bigger person with this alleged shade. She seems genuinely nice and that's why she deserves to get far.

I think Black Widow was too obvious and she will re-release Work after.

Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

If she's re-releasing this album in the fall and Black Widow is the next single then there won't be time to rerelease Work or Change Your Life. So I kiss my dreams of Work becoming a massive hit goodbye.

Re: Iggy Azalea - The New Classic

From a business perpective, I guess releasing 'Black Widow' in the wake of 'Dark Horse' huge success is completely logical but I feel 'Work' would be a better move in the long run. In a year's time, I don't see anybody remembering 'Black Widow' as anything other than Iggy's "of its time" take on an already much larger hit, where 'Work' could show people that she's truly capable of creating a hit on her terms (free of any features and reliance upon current trends).

Compare the runaway success of 'Fancy' wth her US album sales and it's obvious that she's in need of a track which properly sells her as an artist and if anything is the song to do that I think it's 'Work'.

I was watching the BET awards and I really didn't get the impression Nicki was talking about Iggy specifically...
I got the impression she was calling out any rapper that doesn't write his or her own rhymes...
I definitely understand why Nicki might be threatened by Iggy though...
Pills n Potions failed to break into the top twenty in the US, meanwhile Iggy is at number one and features on the track at number two...
