Cascada vs. iiO … Well the script has been written. Both have actually done a achieved something by somehow besting fan favorites, ATC. I mean I definitely had "Around the World" pegged as a pre-rate winner and was excited to have my 11 attached to a winner in one of my rates, which has never happened.
We all know who the underdog is here, it's iiO without a doubt. I always knew they would be in the Top 10 somewhere, but this high? Na-uh. Cascada, I was pretty confident they'd be battling with ATC here.
Well as you saw, ATC got out to that early lead and then emerging from the smoke a new contender emerged, out of nowhere seemingly...
The came across the pond, an American-based Eurodance group beating them all at their own game. Who would've thought?
Who am I kidding? There's no way to fake this, we know what happened. Queen Natalie snapped her fingers, burned down everyone else who had come to compete against Cascada, took that top spot from ATC and basically never let go. Good showing to iiO for sitting at the #2 spot to watch things unfold.
This is a Eurodance rate after all, Cascada were the ones to make Eurodance really a global game for a bit in the 00s and spawned a new generation of super-fans, such as me. This is their time to shine.

I'm so thrilled to have a rate where both hosts gave the winner a 10, I gave Mr. Vain a 10 last time but poptarts only threw Culture Beat an 8 I believe.

My Commentary: From the instant I heard this at work one day, I was hooked on Eurodance. I had to learn who this was, what this music even was, I was in a state of shock. For a few years I had been dipping my foot into ‘techno’ but nothing like this, something so poppy, so catchy, with a mesmerizing vocalist singing like an angel! I dove into everything I could find from that day forth, so deep that my 00s Eurodance library was ridiculous. There are songs from those days I don’t even have anymore and often have ‘rediscover parties’ with myself late at night. The youtube rabbit hole is crazy my friends. It all comes back to this song and I’ll never stop thanking it for the rest of my life.
So like I mentioned with the ATC commentary, I knew some songs that were 'poppy eurodance' but nothing with the instrumentals exactly the way Cascada does them. Their success led to a wave of what some called 'hands up' Eurodance in the mid 00s and my mission was to find all of it. I ended up with a big library of favorites, some have passed the tst of time and some haven't but like I said I have this song to thank for everything.
In their early years Cascada was mostly a cover band but if you listen to their first two albums you'd find a bunch of original tunes too that are amazing. This was partly one of those covers as it uses the chorus from Maggie Reilly's 1992 song of the same name:
Now I'm just going to send anyone who has never listened to Cascada's early material down the journey to new bops. So I actually like their country cover of "What Hurts the Most" quite a bit and it's their only other U.S. hit besides the two songs in this rate:
The title-track from their second album Perfect Day is just as catchy as "Everytime We Touch" if you ask me:
From that album be sure to hear Dream on Dreamer, Because the Night, Who Do You Think You Are, What Do You Want From Me (a personal fav) too.
Always sure to be an instant favorite on this forum, it's "Bad Boy"
Then you've heard
@WowWowWowWow name drop "Ready For Love" before, well it's with reason. get your lives:
How Do You Do!, Miracle, A Neverending Dream, One More Night, Wouldn't It Be Good, and Love Again are the other major highlights from the debut.
Commentary
@livefrommelbs (10) - A strong, STRONG contender for my 11. Definitely in the top 5 tracks in the rate, and a classic for a reason. I still hear it every now and then when I'm out and it STILL goes all the way off. Like many, this was the first Cascada track I heard and I remember being utterly GOOPED by Natalie's voice. So smooth, so emotive, so clear. She's always given Cascada that extra push, but there's no denying that the production is best-practice eurodance as well. An iconic chorus in eurodance and pop in general.
That production yes, the 'synth chorus' after the real chorus is the best Eurodance sound for me too.
@Ana Raquel (10) - A huge contender for my 11 ("Bad Boy" was an instant 11). AMV culture is real!
I've linked it above! :D
@Eric (10) - a very, very close call for my 11. Gloriously euphoric, flawless vocals and brilliant instrumentallAND excellent use of a library card catalogue.
I wish Natalie had been my librarian in high school/college, I definitely would've spent more time there.
@berserkboi (9.3) - I used to find this so annoying back in the day, I have warmed up to it over the years.
Natalie the libraraian educates mr. berserkboi.
@iheartpoptarts (10) - You really wouldn’t have expected this kind of thing to go US top ten in 2005. A pop miracle. The power of Cascada.
Yes, remember when we got Becky G to win a PJ Chart back in the day? Kind of like that miracle.
@Seventeen Days (10) - ETERNAL BOP. I still can remember everything about the first time I heard this song, and it carries fond memories of being in my early 20s.
Same here, this and Avril have those qualities for me more than anything else in my life.
@WowWowWowWow (10) - Maggie Reilly who? Inescapable yet enduring.
Idontknowha.gif
@Sprockrooster (10) - This woman slayed my very existence during a eurodance party in the Netherlands. The vocals. The crowd. A moment.
We've heard about this cionic perfomance mroe than once, where's the vid?
@sfmartin (10) - Such a bop. You couldn’t escape this during my uni years but it never got old.
I always ran towards it.
@unnameable (10) - the Cascada formula of start slow and then send the beat through the roof works amazingly on this song. How come there are two songs covering Maggie O’Reilly in this rate – was she massive in Germany?
I was going to say that I know her name being covered more than this.
@Untouchable Ace (8.9) - She had party bus anthems down to a tea.
One of those I want at my wedding, birthdays, funeral etc.
@Remorque (10) - Though this is nowhere something I actively listen to genre-wise I do love me some Cascada. Natalie's voice is perfectly suited for this song and it's been a guilty pleasure of mine ever since it was released.
Natalie's voice is the best in this particular genre of Eurodance just like Silvy's is my fav for that and Desiree Hagman (Bambee) for bubblegum.
@Music Is Life (10) - I remember this from my childhood as well, and it's an epic dance song still. Love her voice on this, she really makes you believe what she's singing. Love the verses a little more than the chorus to be honest, but it always gets stuck in my head.
You literally knew some of the most important songs as a child. Bless.
