☁️Imagine A Rate Like That☁️ - The Ariana Grande Rate: a double winner makes it a hat-trick!

I suppose I really decided to jump in the deep end with my first rate, huh? Welcome everyone to the ARIANA GRANDE RATE!

Seventeen years old. Parents recently separated. A young girl took comfort in watching Victorious all the way through for the first time in her new bedroom in a new house that her father would never live in. On the screen was a tiny redhead saying the most ridiculous lines and (when they let her) singing everyone else off the stage. Who was she?

Ariana fucking Grande!

There was something about her though I couldn’t put my finger on what. Perhaps I wanted to be her. Perhaps I saw myself in her. Whatever it was, I fell into a hole and devoured every single YouTube video, learnt all the words to the songs she sang on Victorious, listened to whatever scraps of music she’d released or teased. Put Your Hearts Up was far from an outstanding song, but it was hers and I loved the heck out of it. I laminated my stan card a million times over the day The Way was released and listened to nothing else for weeks. Over the years I have become known for being an Ariana Grande fan. The owner of my local gay bar called me Ariana Grande for a solid year because every time I came in I walk right up to the Choose Your Music station and put her music on. I auditioned for performing arts school with Tattooed Heart. I defended her (and myself) to every person who rolled their eyes and made fun of my taste in music just because I said my favourite artist was Ari. I've owned her perfumes, lipsticks, merch, albums and in 2017 I saw her live on her Dangerous Woman tour (when she finally came to NZ).

I suppose you might say my obsessive fandom has died down since then. Those rose tinted glasses came off as I got older and realised that my idol wasn't perfect. I've voiced criticisms of some of her actions, cringed at times and stopped keeping track of everything she does. However, Ariana will always be close to my heart. I've grown as a person and musician along with her music, and I'm so grateful for that. The stan inside me will never die I suppose and I think I'm okay with that.

ANYWAY, let's get to the good shit.
