Imgur links

Discussion in 'Forum business' started by Threshold, Jan 27, 2019.

  1. I recently switched from Safari to Google Chrome (I know) and any embedded Imgur photos show as a broken IMG tag and I have open the link in a new tab and then refresh that tab to view the photo.

Is there a work around or am I missing something?

  2. That's due to people posting them with "https://" rather than "http://". Imgur has decided they don't want people embedding stuff from their website as they'd rather be a meme website like funnyjunk where everything is viewed on their page.

So it's more to do with user's posts rather than your browser. Using "http://i.imgur.com/example.png" makes the page go through PJ's proxy and basically cancel out imgur's no-embedding-allowed shit.

I use tinypic for posting on the forum. Works like a charm.

  4. imgbb is also wonderful.

  5. Could we add some code to the image embedding that changes "https" to "http" for imgur links?

  6. Wait I didn't know there was a workaround for this. Now I don't have to upload an imgur gif to giphy everytime I want to use one.

  7. This is a thing that’s possible? Would it work retroactively to save all the broken images or just be in effect moving forwards?

Most web browsers now restrict loading insecure (non-https) content from within securely loaded pages, so no, it won’t work.
