She’s looks stunning!
I'm not sure if it's because I watched the previous four seasons in succession last year but... I do feel like this season is spinning its wheels. Like Nathan, again? It all feels a bit low stakes and samey. I feel like we really got to see Issa's growth.gif last season and now it's like she's regressed again. I dunno, I'm still enjoying hanging out with the girls but I expected a bit more momentum as we sit halfway through the final season.
I...don't care about Lawrence.
I can't disagree with any of this and, yet, it's still such a pleasure. And maybe that's because, by and large, I've never really watched for the plot, but for the interaction between these wonderfully drawn characters.
Something felt… off about the pacing or tone of this week’s episode. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but it wasn’t up to the usual par. I’m enjoying every second of this season, but I also can’t pretend there isn’t as much forward momentum as I’d hope from a final season.
I hope we get deeper moments in the remaining episodes, because this season has not been it so far. Episode 3 specially was a total bore.
Issa's mom is 100% my mother dddd
This season is all over the place. There’s normally a through line from start to finish and this season just feels like random clips in each characters life without any real linkage.
I’ve enjoyed every episode for what it is but it’s still confusing.
I've always been frustrated with the show's focus on Lawrence, but I actually love Condola, so I really enjoyed their episode. That said, I wish they had left their storyline there. It provided the closure I needed and the last thing I want is more Issa/Lawrence complications. Also, I definitely don't need more Nathan at this point. I wish they kept the focus on Issa's career, Molly's familial drama and the other ladies. Everything else just feels unnecessary, especially with only 5 episodes of the entire series left.
This was underrated
I don't know if I'm remembering this correctly, but in their Wine Down recaps, Prentice said that this season would deal with Issa struggling with her success since we've only ever seen her dealing with her fuck-ups. And the premiere pointed to that, so it's strange that there's been basically no development of it since.
I also find it weird that they're so plugged into what social media is saying about the show because surely they would've seen (for a few seasons now actually) that people want more Kelli and Tiffany, yet we only ever seem to get more Lawrence.
There was the blink-and-you-miss-it social media exchange last week but you're absolutely right.
I love this TV show damn. The women, the drama, the laughs, the music, the clothes. Gimme more.
Another thought: Issa seeing Lawrence at the end just hits so much and reminds me of the season two finale where we were given that montage of her wishes and hopes with him. Even though she walked away during the opening of this season, I'm sure he will always be her one that will always sting in having endured that loss
I actually would have ZERO issues with this week’s Lawrence moment if the preview for next week didn’t show that she does end up getting their attention. I loved the idea of them seeing each other and just moving on; there’s so much power in that.
I don't think her story with Lawrence is done. Her progression with Nathan has such little spark.
Oh I completely agree with that, but for some reason, I don’t feel the need to see it play out on the show. I almost prefer imagining it as a likely scenario long after the show wraps.
I guess we'll see? It's pointing to some type of reconciliation, whether it's amicable or romantic at this point. I'd get it either way.
