Boys is track 5 from Britney's third album, Britney. The song was written and produced by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, collectively known as The Neptunes. The song was recorded by Janet Jackson originally but did not make the All For You album and was passed over to Britney to record.

My thoughts: I'm pretty sure I made my feelings on this song clear when I eliminated the remix. I'm just not massively fond of this Pharrell by numbers sound. The middle 8(s) are a nice addition though.

@blaze_dave (9) Ooh another Neptunes song and so Janet. I love this song a lot, so laid back and those hand claps. Was this first time we heard her giggle in a song? Legendary. So effortless in her vocals here, love it.

@Kaz D'Oerba (7) It’s perfectly fine, and I usually find myself nodding along with it when it’s on. Album version, like with Overprotected, is infinitely better than the awful Co-Ed remix. I disagree, I think the remix makes improvements on the song.

@livefrommelbs (9.5) Slave's sultry sister. So good.

@chrisjche (8.5) The bridge is my favorite part so I was sad when it was taken out for the single version.

@cdd216 (7) Both versions of Boys net out at about the same place for me. I enjoy the enhanced production of the Co-Ed Remix, but don't find Pharrell's presence to be additive. I do like that the remix drops the bridge from the original version, which just doesn't mesh with the rest of the song, but then I miss the gloriously unexpected key change. Basically, both are ultimately sort of unsatisfying and this has never been a personal fave. I agree with you, they need to combine elements from both to really make a good song.

@AstronautMikeDexter (10) This is so lush. I would have loved more songs like this on the record.

@M24 (8) The verses are better here than in the remix, but I hate the production in the chorus. Something about the instrumental annoys me, but I can't quite identify the instrument that bothers me. On another note, I wonder what the whole of "Britney" would've sounded if she'd had it completely her way. Seems to me like she was more into the "urban" style of this song and "I'm A Slave 4 U", which she'd delve into deeper with "In the Zone".

@An Insider (10) I've come around to appreciating the masterpiece of this song. The double bridge switchup is genius.

@Guyhawke! (9) I want someone to have as much belief in me as Britney has in this song. It was a natural successor to ‘I’m A Slave 4 U’ with the same minimalist approach combining of spoken and sung sections. I prefer the 80s-tinged drumline here to the updated Co-Ed remix, and it was (mama I’m in love with a) criminal to remove the ‘tonight, let’s fly, boy have no fear’ part.

Coupure Électrique is track 17 on the deluxe edition of Britney's ninth album, Glory. It is her first song recorded fully in a foreign language. The song was written by Britney Spears, Nathalia Marshall, Rachael Kennedy and Lance Eric Shipp and was produced by the latter. The title translates to 'blackout' in English, which I assume is a nod to her album of the same name.

My thoughts: 8 is a very high score ddd. I don't necessarily stand by the score now but what I will say is that I find the song very interesting, and there's a certain hypnotic quality to it. Plus it's super short so it doesn't have time to be boring because it's over before you know it. It's placed too high for sure but I don't think it's a bad song. My favourite thing about it is that I studied French for 5 years in secondary school and I had no idea that this was the language that Britney was attempting here fff.

@blaze_dave (8.5) Ah that French song by Britney, so random. I know her pronunciation is bad but she still sounds good on it vocally! The heavy industrial production adds a nice contrast.

@cdd216 (7.5) Another lesson that what works in moderation doesn't always service a full song. Love her vocals and the production, but her French ain't it - and it's been almost 20 years since I studied the language!

@M24 (5) Thank god I don't know french because that pronunciation seems a little off ddd. Poor Brit, I guess if the producers cared enough, they would've given her the lyrics phonetically. My real gripe with it is that it's too short, it ends up feeling more like an interlude when it has enough potential to be among the better songs of the album.

@An Insider (10) This track still feels like such a fever dream. From the translation of Blackout to the questionable French to the "dark" production that pretentious gays have been asking from her for years. Need Ur Euphoria who?

@Guyhawke! (7) Britney’s French pronunciation is nearly as undecipherable here as it is in the made-up language in ‘Man On The Moon’. This adds to the eccentricity of ‘Coupure Électrique’, a love letter that ends up sounding slightly foreboding. I do like that the title of the song is ‘Blackout’ in French – a cute Easter egg for diehards. I like this self referential moment.

@Milotic (6) A cool nod to Blackout I suppose… but I just don't see the point ddd. The instrumental is nice!

@Runawaywithme (10) This is just fucking fantastic. From the amazing, atmospheric, dark, cold, industrial production that wouldn't sound out of place on a BANKS album. Britney singing in French and sounding confident and beautiful. To it translating to Blackout. It's just brilliant and moody and weird and everything I love about Britney. What other popstar would put something like this as an album-closing track? Very this!

@lilylu (10) The rumor is that Britney went into the studio and was like "I want to sing in French today." This is so unexpected, her French is... not good, yet this song is an absolute treat.

Swimming In The Stars is the 19th track from the Deluxe Edition of Britney's ninth album, Glory. It was written by Alexei Misoul, Dan Book, Matthew Koma and produced by the latter. It was also released as a single, with the digital and streaming versions of the song being released on Britney's 39th birthday, two days before the release of the Deluxe Edition of Glory. A 12-inch vinyl single was also released by Urban Outfitters in January 2021. There was some controversy surrounding its release, given that it was done during Britney's work hiatus and in the midst of the #FreeBritney movement. The song did not receive much promotion and as such, it did not perform very well in the charts, charting mostly at component charts.

My thoughts: This is gorgeous. I love how laidback and smooth it sounds, it's one of the best modern songs she's released for sure. Also I just love the visual of swimming through the stars, I just think it's really cute.

Like -- this is one of the more obvious NOT HER moments, right? Britney stans, enlighten me.) It sounds like her to me, maybe a little processed but I think it's her...?

@blaze_dave (10) Britney and mood mid tempos are just so effortless with Britney and this shines. The lyrics are so visual and her vocals eat this up to make it so emotive. The dreamy production works so well. I cannot believe this was left in the vaults!

@livefrommelbs (10) I couldn't not believe how much I adored this one when it came out. It's one of those songs where the vocal and the production just meshes so beautifully with the lyrical content that the whole song is elevated. A late-night, loved-up galaxy of greatness.

@cdd216 (9.75) I wish Brit's voice was just slightly less processed on this, but my god the production is so gorgeously lush.

@Guyhawke! (8.5) ‘Swimming In The Stars’ is a nice extra on an album that already felt complete. It soars when the sometimes suffocating production eases off, like on the opening verse and the Middle 8 where Britney suddenly finds herself in the closing scene of a 1980s John Hughes film.

@Runawaywithme (9) It was such a thrill to hear new Britney music, even if was under awful circumstances. There is just something so beautiful and magical about this song. I love #ethrealney to death so hearing her on this shimmering production was just beautiful. She sounds truly angelic on this song, she really has such a beautiful voice - she can definitely bring things out of a song no one else can. This song definitely brightened up a particularly tough winter lockdown in the Scottish Highlands for me.

@Verandi (9) A nice sister track to Man On The Moon. I didn't even make the connection but yes, they go together well.
