(You Drive Me) Crazy; The Stop Remix! is a remixed version of the song from Britney's debut album, ...Baby One More Time, and was released as the third single from the album. The song was written by Jörgen Elofsson, Per Magnusson, David Kreuger and Max Martin, and the remix was produced by Max Martin and Rami Yacoub. The remix was successful, making it to the top 10 in seventeen countries, including number 1's in Iceland and Belgium (Wallonia), number 3 in Canada, number 5 in the UK and number 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song featured on the soundtrack to the 1999 American teen romantic comedy, Drive Me Crazy. The music video was directed by Nigel Dick and featured cameos from the two stars of the movie, Adrian Grenier and Melissa Joan Hart. Due to Hart's appearance in the video, parts of it were also used in the credits of the Season 4 premiere of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, an episode in which Britney guest starred.
My thoughts: I've pretty much said everything I need to say about this song in the original version's write up. While they both have their moments I would argue that this is the better version and I'm not surprised it's one of the early stand out hits.
@Womanizer (8) A version of this with the OG version's bridge could have been an 11 contender
@boombazookajoe (7) I can't really rate it low, but it's not really different enough to rank on its own, IMO. So the best I can say is that it doesn't ruin the original.
Ffff, this sounds SO shady!
@blaze_dave (10) Makes it a bit more guitar driven but a really good remix, considering the album version is just as good. The music video has some good choreography and great to have Melissa Joan Hart in it.
An iconic snapshot of the 90's.
@Sprockrooster (10) The life they managed to inject into this otherwise fillerish track.
@Kaz D'Oerba (9.5) This is the definitive version of “(You Drive Me) Crazy”, to me. It has a wonderful added punch to it, and has replaced the album version in all my playlists, teebs.
@unnameable (10) The Stop! Version is everything.
@livefrommelbs (10) The superior version. To these ears it's just as iconic as BOMT. Explosive and incredible.
@Ana Raquel (10) I slightly prefer this one over the original, but both hits.
Tea!
@chrisjche (10) This is such an amazing example of why singles need to be remixed/re-recorded/re-produced - the extra energy, the development of the signature nasal tone...this is such a classic! This was one of the first dance routines I ever learned - thank you Darrin’s Dance Grooves!
@cdd216 (9.5) As someone who didn't immediately love Sometimes (don't worry, I have since seen the error of my ways), Crazy has always sort of felt like Britney's "comeback" single to me - it was definitely the moment that I realized she was going to be around for awhile. It's top-tier Britney/Max Martin, and it's sort of insane that both versions of the song have uniquely iconic moments that the vast majority of the general public would probably recognize. I prefer her vocal on the album version - the more nasal delivery here feels like such an obvious attempt to recreate the BOMT magic and, in my opinion, goes a little too far in places. That said, I generally prefer the beefed-up production of the remix and particularly enjoy how the outro was reworked to be far more dynamic. The "STOP!" moment in the bridge is such a moment in her discography, but I actually think I generally prefer the the key/tempo change bridge of the album version. I also wish her final, solo "baby thinking of you keep me up all night" line had from the original had made it into the remix. Ultimately, I can't choose between both versions, so I am scoring them the same!
STOP!
@daninternational (9.75) The singles remixes of some of her early stuff were very necessary.
@M24 (9.5) This version is the one, it's more energetic than the original, particularly in the verses. And the STOP part is epic too.
@WhenTheSunGoesDown (10) Extremely powerful.
I was waiting for you to say Britney could be a teenage witch but Melissa Joan Hart could never be a popstar or something to that effect ddd.
@Attis (9) The intro is better, but taking away the godly original bridge is a sin
@Guyhawke! (9.5) Obviously ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy’ in any form is a great pop single. My heart is inevitably drawn towards the original rather than the remix, which feels like an attempt to bring ‘Crazy’ closer to the sound of ‘…Baby One More Time’. It loses some of its spark in translation.
@Milotic (9) Inferior to the album version in my opinion, but still great.
