Femme Fatale really suffers from some questionable tracklist choices. Great songs are relegated to the deluxe edition while less exceptional songs bog down the standard edition. The whole thing would be so much better if (Drop Dead) Beautiful, Trouble for Me, and Gasoline were swapped out with Up n' Down, He About to Lose Me, and Scary. Make those the bonus tracks (along with Selfish and Don't Keep Me Waiting), toss out Big Fat Bass, and you have a slick twelve track album with back to back bangers.

I think Passenger is a good song that’s ruined by everything going on around it.

100% this. There are a lot of songs on Britney Jean that are just limp pieces of raw chicken, but Passenger actually has some bones. It might be the best thing the album has to offer lyrically, it's just that it has absolutely nothing else going for it. Of all the egregious cuts that were slapped together, this one bothers me the most because it actually has some potential, and if it were done well it'd be a solid 8.

I'm not saying they're bad songs! They absolutely deserve to be on the album, and they do bop, but Up n' Down, Scary, and He About to Lose Me all bop harder! There's nothing I'd cut from Femme Fatale except Big Fat Bass, but I do think it and Glory are similar in that their standard editions would be tighter if some of the tracks were swapped with the deluxe tracks.

(Drop Dead) Beautiful isn't a bad song by any means, but How I Roll is a lot better. Is that not the general consensus? I didn't think I was saying anything too controversial.

It probably isn't, I'm just trying to have a kii about it, but I do know the 'pot full of vegetables anthem' is considered towards the top tier of the album or so I thought.

"Gasoline" isn't the best song ever, but it certainly feels much more Britney to me than "Passenger" or – brace yourselves – "Til The World Ends" (which IS a fabulous song, it just always felt much more Kesha to me than Britney). That's why I like it so much. Same with "Drop Dead Beautiful," though to a lesser extent.

The bonus tracks are all fire though. "He About To Lose Me" and "Sailfish" should have been main tracks.

And "How I Roll" is definitely in the Weirdney Hall of Fame. A classic.

Later than expected...

Ironic that the latest eliminations are in pairs as this song is from the standalone section...

We Will Rock You is a promotional song recorded by Britney, Beyoncé and P!nk for Pepsi in 2004. It is a cover of the Queen song, originally written by Brian May. I couldn't find information on who produced the song unfortunately, but happy to update the post if anyone knows.

My thoughts: I'm surprised this received five 10's, it's really not all that ddd. I don't hate this but Beyoncé is doing a bit too much in her section and the 3 voices don't really go together all that well. The video is kind of camp though.
@boombazookajoe (2) I'm so sorry but WHYYYYY was this included in this rate dhajfhskjfkd. Anyway, unfortunately this is a travesty and Britney just doesn't sound good compared to Bey or Pink. I feel like someone requested it be included? I can't remember nn.

@blaze_dave (7) Love the song for all the 3 females on this and they do sound good, but one of my least favourite Queen songs rather gets covered.

@Rantaro (7.3) It’s a nice enough cover. Joy of Pepsi is the superior Pepsi song, however.

@unnameable (3) totally unnecessary cover version with little to recommend it.

@Ugly Beauty (5) I mean, I'm not crazy about the original so… Oop, neither am I.

@livefrommelbs (6) Love the role of this commercial in the zeitgeist, but as a song in a rate... eh.

@Ana Raquel (8) I remember being overwhelmed? pleasantly surprised? when I first found out about this because it's an ad with three of my favorite artists back then and pink. Might have overscored a bit here because of the nostalgia factor, not gonna lie. Ffff, poor P!nk!

@stereosalt (10) Am I ranking the song? No. I’m ranking the commercial.

@cdd216 (4) I love Brit and think she's a capable belter, but the arrangement of this song isn't doing her vocal styling any favors - something that is only emphasized by putting her next to Pink and Beyonce, who are clearly more in their element.

@daninternational (7) Amazing concept, average execution

@M24 (0.5) Brit sounds incredible on her parts. It just doesn't work that well as a whole song with all the ladies swapping vocals, does it? Plus, we deserve it in better quality… how come no studio version leaked after all these years?

@BeingNormal (1) 3 female singers won't be enough to recover this putrid So bad you didn't even finish your thought!

@Guyhawke! (5) The concept of these three 00s powerhouses singing together is better that the end product, and the commercial is a far better experience than listening to the song on its own. I find this whole project slightly surreal to engage with now, knowing that there was so much ahead of each woman. It’s novel to hear how they stylise the same melody for their parts of the verse, but ultimately ‘We Will Rock You’ is not essential for fans of any member of the trio. It’s an expensive, albeit forgotten, memento from a bygone era of popstar endorsement.

@Milotic (6.5) What was this even for? Dd For a Pepsi commercial!

@BreatheBox (5) ok

@Verandi (9.5) I wonder what B thinks of stuff like this now. Probably the most american video I've ever seen, a valid point against capitalism, mortifying but iconic. The girls look unreal, Enrique a snack. Pepsi remains trash tho.

@Sprockrooster (10) Little teen Sprocky was hooked on this track and video that I only managed to get via LimeWire. I was too confused perhaps to get it legally. Nonetheless this was the sugar rush I desperately needed. I would almost say an 11-contender but that is a bit ridiculous in the vast discographies from all the ladies. But definitely often forgotten and overlooked and in popjustice at that. This also needs to be on spotify cause I still do not own it legally ddd. But I can’t I think? I don't believe it's ever been released in an official capacity, which makes it all the more strange that I included it!

Femme Cigarette is not a bad album by any means. It’s all solid AAA productions from start to end but.. something is missing and.. it’s Britney herself. That whole era is just so depressing to me and I can’t stan in good faith knowing what was going on with her at the time. I gave 10’s where they were deserved, though.

You Got It All

(from Oops!... I Did It Again)

Average: 5.356

High Scorer: 10 x 1 (@LykkeLi)
Low Scorer: 0 x 1 (@stereosalt)
My Score: 4.5

You Got It All appears as track 13 on the deluxe version of the Oops!... I Did It Again. Written by Rupert Holmes and produced by Eric Foster White, the song is a cover of the song of the same name by The Jets. The song was originally recorded for Britney's debut album but was not used, eventually being selected for inclusion on the second album as a bonus track.

My thoughts: This is sort of cute but there are too many ballads at the end of this album so it's hard to feel affection for any of them. The very first second of the song reminds me of 'Sweetness' by Michelle Gayle so I always end up disappointed that this isn't that song but yet another ballad in a sea of beige ballads.
@Ana Raquel (6) I always put this in the group of ~blandness~ of OIDIA but this sounds a bit more memorable and interesting than the other tracks in it, so I think it might be a bit unfair of my part? Dd Does it though? I find it hard to tell them all apart!

@daninternational (3.5) too saccharine, like many of her early ballads

@ABOY'SGOT2SUFFER4FASHION (6.5) Definitely should’ve been on the album over Dear Diary.

@boombazookajoe (6) I wish the vocals were produced a bit better because I actually really like this melodically and lyrically. A cute little number!

@blaze_dave (8) I like how strong her vocals on here. I would classify this as a ballad. The vocals are good to be fair.

@Rantaro (6.5) I’ve always been fond of this cover. I really like her vocal performance in it.

@maikos87 (8) I don’t know why I love this cover so much

@unnameable (6.5) mediocre song, but wonderful use of Britney’s voice.

@M24 (2) I can't remember how it goes on even after having listened to it a bunch of times. The album does suffer quite a bit in the second half. Yeah I think the tracklist needs a couple of cuts and a reshuffle.

@Milotic (6.5) Okay, vocals!

@Guyhawke! (8) Carried over from the ‘…Baby’ era, ‘You Got It All’ is a lovely little song. It was written by Rupert Holmes who produced albums for Britney’s vocal contemporary Barbra Streisand in the 1970s. ‘You Got It All’ has a warm, nostalgic feel and Britney does a lot with her voice throughout.

So I have no intention of abandoning this rate at any point BUT I do need to have a backup host just in case. Is there anyone who would be willing for me to put forward to take over in the very unlikely event that I disappear off the face of the earth? Definitely someone who has run a rate before, preferably someone who has run a rate with a lot of voters (there is a lot of information to collate for each post). You can PM me if you'd prefer. Thanks loves. x

If someone else comes to you with more passionate interest, please pick them — but if no one else offers their services, I’d do it. (Don’t quit though, legend.) <3

Not mad at the results so far! There is one real turd from Blow Job left but otherwise I can’t say I really disagree with any of these eliminations. Starting soon though every cut is gonna hurt because I have an unhealthy obsession with the remaining portion of Britney’s discography. Even the fails. Looking forward to the carnage!
