JADE - "Fantasy" + Debut Album

I feel the opposite. The first half lulls you into this false sense of security. The way it completely unravels so effectively is partly because the first half is so safe and expected. It's also filmed so, so well and the grading of the visuals absolutely nails that Soul Train look. It's sad that more people don't appreciate what is a rarity these days; a cracking pop video.
Yeah, I really like that it just feels like it's going to be one of the many, many music videos where the artist looks pretty and sings for the whole video (which is very common). And then the end happens.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great video, but the Angel video really set my expectations up so that I was expecting it to be full on from the get go. Had Fantasy came before Angel then I probably wouldn’t be thinking it

I think Angel is my favorite still. A little perplexed by them switching this to the single. There's really no bad option to go with, but I do think even Midnight Cowboy sticks in my head a bit more

Midnight Cowboy feels stronger to me. Even though I've listened to Fantasy a few times, I can never remember how it goes! Maybe because Mariah's Fantasy is one of my all time faves (the ODB version) so that's what I hear when I think of Jade's.

He / Him / His
Genuinely finding some of this “Little Managers” style chat bizarre.

Fantasy, and it’s Jools Holland-linked launch, feels like it’s about giving middle-aged gays and their community a slinky number that’s sat there waiting on her Spotify for the holiday drinks party season. It’s about ensuring the most affluent end of the pop consuming market see her as an intelligent offering, and indeed someone they might even shell out money to see live (where the real £££ is now for an artist!) without fearing it’d be a gig full of 12 year old Ella’s like a Little Mix show. They absolutely want people who’ll buy deluxe vinyl with high-fashion photography too.

Seen through that lens, Fantasy’s “underperformance” feels more like an intentional move to filter down to a mature audience for whom her Little Mix background isn’t necessarily a positive.

Sorry, I realise everybody has moved on, but this post is high camp.

"No she's strategically pandering to the middle aged gays with money and taste who don't stream, not those childish tiktok teens with their dances and lack of allowance and future prospects!"

I tend to agree with this and it is a fantastic video. Part of me would have loved for there to have been no reveal of Love Connie and for her just to have been singing and the spot of blood/soaking to have been a complete surprise, then a reveal of who/why afterwards.

Channel Tres makes the song feel so much fuller. Especially his little additions to the chorus. Second verse is totally lifted now. Obsessed. It's finally a smash!

But… she is? And it’s an incredibly sensible move for someone who clearly wants a long-term career making music.

Hence I *still* think the “Omfg why didn’t they get the pre-order out already, argh she’s flopping, argh the album release is in danger!!!” stuff is… bizarre.
