Janet Jackson - Number Ones / The Best

Well then indeed, this whole argument makes the miming argument redundant. It wasn't the CD version so.. who cares? For all we know Gaga used prerec too.

I don't think a quality performance can or should be judged by the exact audio technicalities behind what you're hearing.

Neither were vocal performances so, what does it matter?

Gaga's vocal chords may argue against that.

I'm talking about the style of the performances. Bad Romance is not a 'sit down at a piano' ballad where live vocals are the sole purpose of the performance. It's an uptempo song and a (badly) choreographed routine. It has more aspects than vocals.. indeed, vocals are not the primary aspect of the performance (nor are Gaga's vocals particularly interesting IMO).

RhythmNative, exactly. If miming can heighten your performance to that of Janet or (old) Britney performances choreographically.. why the hell not? You can't achieve this:

...with live vocals. That is true performance.

It's not like she has to prove anything. She's Janet freaking Jackson, I worship her nonetheless. The performance was good, she put a lot of energy into it, she looked like she had a blast and did a terrific job dancing-wise.

Who cares about the vocals?!

It's not like Gaga sounded great. Maybe she should have mimed too.

Ah come on, she sounded fine. You don't have to knock her vocals to justify Janet miming.

Janet mimes because she's incapable of pulling off a good vocal performance while dancing. Gaga is able to, though she admittedly doesn't dance as much (or as technically impressive) as Janet. That's all there is to it.

I liked Janet's performance. The transition between All For You (great song) and Make Me was good. It doesn't matter anyway - I think the majority of viewers would have just liked seeing her seemingly happier after the death of Michael more than anything else. The last time the UK public saw her was probably dressed in black grieving at the memorial.

Oh God, I am seriously not getting into an X Factor miming debate when guest acts regularly mime and the contestants mime the performance that opens the frigging show.

No one cares.

So why did they bother putting Dermot on the side of the stage with her in the background running off??

That looked awkward, like she was waiting for someone to talk to her, then running off when the penny dropped.

She pre-recorded it? I thought maybe no interview was arranged and she missed her cue to exit the stage haha.

It's a bloody stretch to call what Gaga does 'dancing'.

And here we are. Feminine vocals, whilst dancing harder and better than ANYONE female artist in this industry can:

This isn't normally physically feasible. For instance, Britney's Me Against the Music performances were very impressive but no, she couldn't sustain a vocal - no-one could.
Janet is an exception.

That's something I agree with. Gaga is moving, not dancing.
She could never bust a move like Janet, probably because of her costumes. Those Devils horns would make for dangerous flying projectiles...

Ok, the miming thing is so boring, as is the anti-Gaga tirade LewJB is also doing in the actual Lady Gaga thread.

They both were very different performances and there is no need to trash Janet or Gaga to justify one or the other.

Re: Janet Jackson - "Number Ones". The hits collection feat. the single "Make Me

Considering she flew over "especially for the show", it wasn't really up to much as her first UK appearance for years.

They seemed to hype her performance more than GaGa's at the start of the show and she didn't even get to talk at the end. Bizzare.

She didn't 'fly over just for X Factor'. She's doing Jingle Bell Ball too and likely other stuff in Europe. That was just X Factor spinning it's self importance.

It's not a tirade, it's mere opinion.

I actually like Gaga. I love Monster.
