Janet Jackson - Number Ones / The Best

It was good to see her so happy during her X Factor performance! Nice to hear Make Me has now entered the iTunes top 100, any chance this will still become a hit?

I'm S.E.X!

Next year is JANET YEAR baby! I cannot wait for the movie, I loved the first one. Albeit she was outshined by Jill but from the trailer, her performance is this one will be intense. Cannot wait for the book... not only will it be a really fascinating read about her insecurities, but I'm sure it'll help me and MY insecurities!

And cannot even fathom my excitement for the album. If Make Me, and this promo tour, are anything to go by, she's going straight retro. No photoshoots in BIG BLACK ASS magazine or whatever it was in the 20 Y.O era. No "I lost 1000 pounds" magazine covers. No plasticy barbie wigs. Just good music, good dance, and Janet! How it should be. I hope she does an All For You 2.0 with a mixture of funky happy songs (Someone to call my lover), and gritty dark songs (Son of a gun).

By the way, is that a weave she has in? You can see her baby hairs and it looks very convincingly real? Eh, it can't be, no black girls hair could be that think when relaxed. But it looks GOOD! I love it. It is very.. All For You era weave, volumised.

Can I just go vaguely off topic here and say that one of my resolutions for 2010 is to buy, and consume, Janet's entire back catalogue. I have only heard Velvet Rope and Discipline in full (and I've not heard VR in about 5 years). I AM EXCITED.

Please report back what you think of them!

I still say The Velvet Rope is the best one, my mate Sharon would disagree & say the Janet album is.

Control is.

All killer, no filler.

Actually - Control to janet. is pretty much perfection. Velvet Rope is good, but has some shit moments.

For me personally:

Velvet Rope (My favourite non-Michael album ever)
All For You
janet.
Rhythm Nation
Control
Damita Jo
Discipline
20 Y.O

I've never listened to Janet Jackson or Dream Street. No point, really. It's not her, it's Joe.

Oh no I think Control is the worst album.

I don't count the first two (just like Janet) but Control hasn't aged well & apart from the singles I don't like any of the other tracks.

Although I do admit that after "Everytime" The Velvet Rope does get patchy, but then I find all of her albums reach a point where they start to.

HOW CAN YOU THINK CONTROL IS HER WORST ALBUM?

No, like, seriously? That's madness. It's by far her best album - I love it to bits!

Also, all but two tracks were singles...

My god, I never knew All For You was unpopular. I love that album SO MUCH.

By the way, HOW amazing is Enjoy? One of my favourite Janet songs. I'm listening to 20Y.O. and whilst it's her worst album, it still isn't bad. I love Part 1. And Days Go By.

Dumb question, but why do people ignore 'Dream Street' and 'Janet Jackson' when they talk about Janet's career arc? I know that 1) the albums aren't widely available, 2) they weren't big hits either (in the US it looks like the self-titled one peaked in the 60s and 'Dream Street' in the 180s), and 3) that she really hit her creative stride and committed to be a musician with 'Control' -- all of which are possible reasons to not pay them much mind -- but I guess it just seems weird to me.

I know, I love All For You (the album)! Maybe it is only unpopular here on the Popjustice forums? One of those Popjustice things?!

I think that the first two albums were 'created' by other people, Janet just turned up at the end and sang on them with no real creative input and from 'control' onwards she had a vision of what she wanted to be as an artist. Imagine one of her pussy ballads now with Cliff!
