Janet Jackson - Together Again (Tour)

Her most acclaimed and successful tour in years and not a single sniff or rumour of it coming to Europe

I saw Janet last night in Allentown, PA and we got Lil Kim as the opener instead of Ludacris. Wow, this show is SLICK! The medleys are really well put together, it's insane how many hits this legend has had. She was missing one of her dancers (my favorite one, unfortunately!) so the formations were a little off at times but they did a great job holding the stage down. The overall production is great - the lights are subtle but change around quite a lot and I loved the way the band kept being repositioned. The way she commands the venue is really such a joy to experience - one of the best concerts I've been to!

It just breaks my heart that this woman who is sitting on one of the most valuable bodies of work in the history of pop music has resorted to selling her old clothes and shoes (and game consoles apparently). 15 years of smash hits, smash tours, breaking records and it's come to this? She was treated horribly but she's treating her own legacy with indifference as well.

I agree, it really is so frustrating and heartbreaking both at the same time.

It for me is another demonstration of the intersectionality of fame, race, and gender - we have Madonna going through her own archives for a celebratory tour...while Janet is scrounging for bids on her entire physical history. Another factor being how deeply the Super Bowl debacle hurt her legacy, in addition to her choice~ decisions (jancellations) over the years, and how much "fame" itself really is just an illusion when it comes to financial security.

Celebrities, especially legacy acts that haven't found ongoing passive income are really not as rich as we were taught to think that they might be. Seeing Janet as such a visible example of that is just...disheartening.

Also, she's probably surrounded by idiots – at least the one managing her! Not saying Janft is the most reliable professional either, with her #jancellations and allergy to new music, but I suspect her team isn't helping. Yes people lacking a fresh vision (the squandering of Kaytranada still gets to me, also this fucked janet. reissue) and generally content to coddle her own lethargy, as long as they're on the payroll. I mean... work smarter not harder I guess

Her doing these auctions wouldn't hurt so bad if there were steps being taken to preserve her legacy in other ways, like with proper re-issues and campaigns surrounding them, but there really aren't. Understandably motherhood has taken priority over new music, which is completely fine, but she doesn't even have to lift a finger when it comes to the stuff fans want; get Jimmy and Terry to dig for session outtakes and put those together, and surely the label has access to film reels and photo negatives to properly remaster her videos and release upgraded packaging for her albums. Finally, release her tours (including the Metamorphosis show) on Blu Ray! It's insanity that a performer of Janet's caliber has no official concert films readily available. Like if she decided she doesn't want to put out new music anymore despite all her teasing, then can we at least get some effort put into the back catalogue?

Wait, is this a re-do of the last auction? I remember the Aston Martin was part of the last listing.

I do think that last divorce and fighting for sole custody cost her dearly, pun intended.
