Janet Jackson

"Velvet Rope" was the first mistake she''s made. Actually, the mistake was 1) putting Together Again out as a hit single (her best selling ever, apparently!) and 2) not having anything remotely similar on the album. That killed her career the same way Corrs'' career ended when people were buying "Talk On Corners" in droves and then returning it because it didn''t have any dance tracks on it. Corrs came up with a "special edition" of the album, Janet didn''t.

Interestingly, I bought "Velvet Rope" and I was REALLY disappointed with it. I loved "Got til it''s gone", "Together again" and "You" (which was at some moment going to be a single) and... nothing else. Now I like it much more, maybe because the follow-ups were so poor.

Maybe she has learned from 20YO what her strengths are. Jermaine Dupree didn''''t - he blamed the failure of that CD on everyone but himself.

Janet needs to take some responsibility as well. Her cool image (which she had) has been systematically taken apart by tit shots and those ghastly ''look how much weight I''ve lost'' magazine interviews. She''s struggling and good music is important to that but it''s only part of why I think she''s flopping.

Gosh, so I wasn''t the only one who found the new six-pack pictures revolting. It''s her eyes. The look in her eyes is scary. It''s the "I don''t care if I''m human anymore, but I''ve done it. Here. Love me or I''ll fcuking kill myself" look.

I agree. And those body interviews are baaaad karma b.c girlfriend is yoyo in the weight department. I also don''t believe for ONE HOT MINUTE that what she did with that weight loss was totally healthy.

In my eyes:

1. Janet Jackson''s Rhythm Nation 1814
2. janet.
3. Control
4. The Velvet Rope
5. All For You
6. 20YearsUntilIt''sOver
7. Damita Shit

Those first four are all amazing albums with 1814 being one of my all time favourite albums. I actually think Janet''s albums are better than Madonnas in that there next to the amazing singles (of which Madonna''s a better) there isn''t as much silly filler - except on All For You, which had lots of dodgy songs but still had some great ones.

I''d love to see Janet return to her roots of her Control-era dance style and forgot the limp monotonous r&b-lite shit she''s been singing lately (if you can call it singing, it''s more like polite whispering). And ditch the overt sexuality. It''s DONE. Even Madonna left her "Erotica" phase behind her.

Actually, what Janet needs is to have a kid and release her "Ray of Light" instead of (it would seem) copying Mariah Carey.

She almost did with Weekend - I thought this would be a sample of what was to come but it wasn''t.

from chicagofusion.com :

Jackson is now on the same label as her boyfriend J. Dupri (bad news) after two so-so albums. Her move to Island Def Jam coincides with Def Jam CEO L.A. Reid’s desire to work on Jackson’s new album. "I let him (Reid) deal with that on a day-to-day basis,†Dupri said in a recent interview. “He''s going to A&R that project, too. Janet''s record is one that he''s wanted to do for a long time. He''s very passionate about it.†The vibe of Jackson’s new record isn’t confirmed yet, but Dupri is not putting his hands on Jackson’s project (good) I don''t really know what he''s (Reid) got in mind at this point. His past record isn''t shabby so I''m going to let him do what he''s going to do,†Dupri said. “I''m going to do the new Mariah Carey album, and we''re going to make it seem like we''re in competition to see who''s going to have the biggest album of the year.

Rhtythm Nation was not just an album, it was an experience. I have to cringe when Janet talks sexy, her family whom half of them have gone muslim, what are they thinking?

I think it was kinda inevitable that she would make the switch to Def Jam, as Dupri was involved kinda heavily on the last album. Even if he won''t be working on the new one mcuh (which I don''t really believe), the initial creative relationship was started. As for All For You and Damita Jo I don''t actually think they are all that bad. OK so they are neither Janet or Control but still fairly decent. I dislike their lengths but that''s it. As for 20YO I was dissapointed, true it doesn''t have any bad tracks on it per se, but it doesn''t really have any mind bogglingly good ones either.

The latest known names of collaborators currently working on new tracks with Janet include LA Reid, Ne-Yo, Jazze Pha, Pharrell Williams, Syience, Polow Da Don, Scott Storch, and Johnta Austin.

There still has not yet been any word about whether Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis will produce anything on Janet''s upcoming album. If there are no tracks produced by the duo, it will be the first album since 1984''s "Dream Street" that does not include any tracks from Janet''s long time collaborators.

So, at the moment those are the producers in the new album. Wow... No Jimmy & Terry. I''m glad Jd is not on it.

I think Beyoncé killed her career in 2003/2004.
And now Janet Jackson''s secret baby from 1988 is coming back with a vengence. Guess who?

Her what?

There''s been this rumour that Janet gave birth in 1988, but "gave" it to Rebbie so that she could continue on with her successful career. It keeps popping up now and then...

She should just rerelease ''Janet Jackson'' and ''Dream Street''. They''d probably both outsell ''20 YO''.

I looove "If It Takes All Night". I never understood why she hates those 2 albums so much, they''re not bad at all.

A few years ago when Kylie''s "Fever" was doing well in the US I remember reading Janet wanted to make a dance album like that. Obviously she chose to make bog standard R&B music that''s being done better by people half her age for her next two albums instead. Sad that she STILL doesn''t seem to have learned from her mistakes. Her best stuff''s always had a pop edge to it as well.

Even La Toya''s leaked "Startin Over" album is stronger than Janet''s last two albums! A real mix of different styles of pop.
