This should have been a proper single release with a video.
I think it could have been a big UK/EU hit for her at the time of release, fits the 1998-1999 sounds very well.
It had a video in the form of a commercial. Rene, I think, has a writing credit on it.
Have they only awarded that just now?

They’ve announced them all since 1983. Janet also got 1993 (which I think should have been Whitney - hello bodyguard?).

Not impressed with the Celine erasure. Wasn’t she selling like an album every 2 seconds around 1996/97? And yet they choose Diddy.

Look I loved TLC and Alanis had a moment but c’mon neither had the longevity of any of those 80s artists.

What the fuck did I just read.
I’m bemused by this drama. i know they were much bigger in the US which is what the rankings are based on but I’ve just reminded myself of their UK discographies. C’mon, they really don’t compare to MJ, Janet, Madonna, Prince, George Michael, Whitney. This can’t just be my 80s bias surely?

Not being at the same level of Madonna and Michael doesn't mean someone is a flash in the pan. TLC and Alanis defined the 90s. TLC have sold 65 million albums. There are tiers to this. Not being at the level of MJ and Madonna would make 99.9% of acts a "flash in the pan".
Let’s not forget that TLC’s trajectory was cut short by tragedy. Along with En Vogue, they set the template for girl groups to come. I don’t think Janet would disagree.
