Jessie Ware - That! Feels Good!

The lyrics are still on my mind and I’m surprised it’s placement on the tracklist is after “Free Yourself”. I feel like they go hand in hand with “Begin Again” being a realization of what her life is currently and craving a redo while “Free Yourself” is a declaration (and rally to others) of freedom.

I feel that some people just want her to repeat What's Your Pleasure, which was mostly more sparse and icy in production. This is clearly a warmer, more organic record that harks back to the past and absolutely nails the music she said was inspiring her, like Earth, Wind & Fire, Donna Summer etc. What I really don't understand it how anyone could say that the music lacks class. The songwriting, musicianship and vocals are utterly sublime and nothing if not classy.
To be fair I’ve been a stan since her debut, so I’m not necessarily gunning for another What’s Your Pleasure? at all, I’m happy for her to deviate-but something just isn’t clicking with these songs for me in the way her previous promo material have in the past.

I think everything Jessie does has class, and again I said a lot of, not altogether! But does it compare to the levels we’ve seen on her output in the past? I wouldn’t say so. Can’t deny her vocals though, this is the best she’s ever sounded!

WYP was plenty warm. Spotlight, Soul Control, RWYA, In Your Eyes... it's not an icy record overall.

I think you can be critical or at least a little skeptical of this album's sound without that being a product of feelings ablut What's Your Pleasure.

This is exactly it. WYP was a masterpiece because it balanced the icy cool of The Kill with the warm embrace of Remember Where You Are with complete subtlety (even Ooh La La was somewhat restrained).

So far, this album is very brash and loud. I’m reserving judgement but I can’t deny my disappointment.
