The way she's delayed the single's release date at least twice already I feel has dampened some of her hype. When things were rolling (around a week before Little Mix's anniversary) and it seemed like she was on the verge of announcing/releasing it felt like she had a real buzz but it seems to be falling apart a bit.

I agree.

Jesy should've released in late August as was planned and Little Mix should've gone in early October. Both of them lost.

I just feel like Jesy has put herself in this dangerous position where she’s alienated everyone who probably could have been her fans. Who’s even fighting her corner anymore? She’s angered 90% of Little Mix fans, Twitter music journos / gays are rightfully still perturbed by her black-fishing, and the Mums and general public think she’s retired from the spotlight forever in the name of mental health which couldn’t be further from the truth. I worry for her.

I just initially found it weird, because it initially sounded like 30 is some ancient age rather than one year out of a person’s twenties. Glad you cleared that up for me, though.

Maybe not exactly 30, but around that age is when I observed most pop females get their last lap on radio. As for debuts, I can’t think of any big debut by someone who wasn’t in their 20s at least in the last two decades, aside from the mentioned Gwen, JLo and Fergie, who weren’t already globally popular*.

That’s not to say she shouldn’t bother going solo for her art or her livelihood, I’m just not sure if she’ll be a huge world-conquering smash, but then again, maybe those aren’t their goals/expectations, anyway.

*I’m actually not sure if all three were already super popular outside the United States. I assume Jesy is looking at the UK as her main market, who already know her so her being a big UK solo star is probably still very realistic.

I can’t really think of many female popstars over the age of 35 who get regular Spotify playlist support - Pink, I guess and probably Beyoncé when she eventually releases a new album (I’m interested to see how they treat Katy when she releases something new).

Gaga did fine on Spotify with Chromatica and is headed for 40. I think there's always some rare exceptions.

Gen Z still adore Nicki Minaj, Kacey Musgraves, Lizzo, etc who aren't exactly 21.

Because they never felt buzz in the first place? There is a reason she's using a classic R&B hit as a sample/interpolation, including Nicki, and why she was saying "this is [my] authentic lane musically" too. Exactly. I don't think the GP is eagerly anticipating what Jesy Nelson will bring out as her solo single.

Which is closer to 40 than 30! Sorry I wasn’t being ageist (intentionally) just trying to make a point that Jesy at 30 shouldn’t be worried about radio support for her age.

My last concerts before the pandemic were Cher and Madonna so I wouldn’t ever care an artists age. In fact, I can’t really get into the newer acts because they feel too young for me.

And as of March 29, 2021 (one day after turning 35) she was technically closer to 40 than 35. I can do math too. I didn't even say anything wrong about being that age I was trying to prove a point you can be that age and still get support from playlists.
