It's not that great. I feel bad. I love Jewel, but ... yet another case of diminishing returns.
I've been going back to The Story a lot more than anything on the album. Yeah the lyrics are a bit twee but the poppy production makes it feel less of an issue. I also live for the key change.
She has 3 greats albums and the rest are patchy as hell.
Just got around to this and… yikes. I’ve managed to find something to love on every album prior (Sweet and Wild is my go-to Jewel record for gawd’s sake!) but trying to find something worth keeping here is like digging through the rubbish bin. At least her creative bankruptcy coincided with her moral bankruptcy, so I don’t have to feel too badly about giving this one a hard pass. Shame, as I rode hard for Jewel until this year.
