This is a cute release but I feel like it's doing the opposite of building more hype dd? Her voice is spine-tingling though.

It's purely a practical release because she's booked for headline festival slots this summer, which she can't really justify doing without a current project of some sort, or at least a few tracks featuring on current playlists. Hence all the very on-the-nose "it's not an album!!! just a body of work!!!" press release stuff.

Agreed - I've had the EP on repeat since yesterday. Time and Bussdown are particular favourites of mine. The chorus of Addicted is one of the catchiest I've heard in a while.

This might honestly be my favorite thing she has ever done? "Addicted," "Bussdown," "Gone," "Digging" and "Weekend" all feel like the beginning of a new and more exciting direction for her, they all showcase different sides of her artistry, abilities and sensibilities in a way the debut album failed to. Add "Come Over," "Rose Rouge" and "By Any Means" to this and then you have her strongest project so far.

This is one of the few times I've read an artist make this sort of statement and actually believe them and not think it's a preemptive attempt to damage control the project flopping, it does just feel like a downtempo collection of songs she had ready to go. It's all very nice but nothing that I'd take for a best songs of the year playlist I don't think.

Yeah, I can actually believe it too.

As much as I'm sure there was an element of wanting to evade the sophomore slump like everyone else releasing mixtapes / EPs / 'projects' after their debut, the stuff she said about her knowing she would need to operate on a higher level for an album felt genuine to me.
