Joshua Bassett - Sad Songs In A Hotel Room EP

Release response songs eleven months after everyone forgot the initial drama and after the subject was nominated for a boatload of Grammys is certainly a choice. It didn't work for Joe Jonas and John Mayer after their respective songs but maybe it will for him?

I was really pleasantly surprised by these three songs, they’re all great. He always comes across very lovely too.

I haven't listened to any of the songs and I didn't watch much of that interview yet but...

I admit I criticized him on here when he released that Liar song shortly after Drivers License. I said he was giving off a misunderstood fuckboy persona, and I wish I had thought better about that.

The truth is, none of us know what goes on in anyone else's relationships. Especially in the case of popstars who we are interested in, it's easy to just take their side as they are the ones we "know" and maybe relate to because of whatever work they are putting out there.

I don't know where I'm going with this. I guess I just wish that it didn't take a look into the other side of a story for me personally to remember that there is indeed more than one side.

What I find very interesting about the whole thing is that no one knew how big Driver’s License would become. Plenty of people write songs about exes that the public can very obviously ascertain the subject, and they may even stretch or bend the truth to fit the creative narrative for the song and that’s all par for the course. But that song, as well as Olivia’s full blown, essentially, Joshua break up album blew up in one of the most surprising musical moments of the year, and Joshua was pretty much left to look like a horrible piece of shit when it’s pretty obviously not who he is at all. I feel badly for the guy and I wish him so much luck and success. The music is hit or miss for me so far but he’s got a lovely voice and is clearly talented, plus he’s a cute twink who’s clearly got a good head on his shoulders and is doing his best to bring positive things into the world. I really hope he finds the success I think he deserves.

I think that's something EVERYONE needs to be doing when it comes to anyone... whether it's our fave's narrative or whatever...
Facts not F*ckery when it comes to stories etc...

I can't complain about a seven song EP and I like the cover for the EP but I do wish he was at least doing a physical release with this project. Who knows what the album will look like at this point.

It looks like he’s set a preorder for vinyl, although no good for me in the UK with US shipping prices…
