Broadway cast recording out now.

I definitely prefer the London cast (still hope I'll find a way to go see it before it finishes but probably not with Covid around) but it's a nice excuse to replay a stellar collection of songs again

I just listened to the cast recording and without having any idea how the songs work onstage, I have to way hearing all these songs be performed in that full chested, overly earnest musical theater way really took away from their charm and their boppery. It's just proof that the best technical voice isn't always what's best for the song, at a certain point I just wanted to go back and listen to the originals. But if it gives the songs a new life then I'm all for it.

Oh I quite like most of the arrangements, but in most cases it's hard to improve upon the original.
I must say after having listened to the Broadway recording now for weeks the London one sounds kinda flat?
(which is odd cause on first listen I thought 'I preferred the UK one')

Just listening to the Broadway version and it sounds emotionless/characterless and seems too exact like they've tweaked it a lot with autotune. The Will Shakespeare sounds much too young - but Olly Thompsett is a god. Seems like they've really tried to copy the Westend recording version with most of the same ad-libs.

It almost seems a bit like they've not realised it's a comedy and it's supposed to be a bit tongue-in-cheek.

The Broadway cast recording is absolutely awful compared to it live, don’t know why Max Martin produced it that way. I’ve seen it numerous times and it’s a banger each time. The original West End production will always be the most magical one for me though, Miriam, Casey, and Oliver were just perfection (no shade to Lorna, Betsy, and Stark, as they’ve done a great job).

I will say, I am so disappointed Melanie wasn’t nominated for a Tony. Her version of Angelique (the only constant I’ve seen between the two productions actually) is the heart of the show.

The Oz version looks rough…

There's an Oz version?! Oh wow. Is it Melanie in the Broadway one too - I thought it was someone just copying her completely!

Yep, opened in February of this year. I was meaning to go to the opening like I have for the West End/Broadway productions but couldn’t make it out there.

And yes! I was so happy that Melanie was brought in for the Broadway version, she was my favorite when I saw it on the West End and she is still killing it on Broadway! I fear she may be on her way out though because she twice posted a story on Instagram about her “work” being “done”.
