Justin Timberlake

Justin was complicit, but Les Moonves and his sick obsession with ruining Janet was one of the main facets of it all. Sometimes, I wish Janet had more rabid, young fans who can actually do a lot of organized damage on social media. In this respect, Britney’s a bit “lucky” because she still has a lot of young fans, who can pull through for her online.

This is what I keep returning to. And yes, it wasn't Justin who had her blacklisted, but it's the fact that it was Janet who suffered the entire fallout while his career went to greater heights afterward despite being the literal instigator of the event.

It's one thing that she never scored another Top 10 hit after that even though she was still at the height of her commercial powers, it's another thing entirely that the previous 15 years of a groundbreaking, legendary career in music was completely wiped from the history books. Recurrent airplay, video recognition, all of it just gone. Songs that should still be omnipresent are no longer there. That's legacy. That's the shit that was erased. Her monumental influence in pop music will forever be overshadowed. How is Justin, or anyone involved in her downfall, going to fix it? That's what I want to know.

This has always been the biggest disappointment to me too. I'm not old enough to remember Control or Rhythm Nation era Janet, but I am old enough to remember Doesn't Really Matter, All For You, and Someone to Call My Lover being on the radio and MTV all the time. And of course the generation of pop stars I grew up with - Britney, Beyonce, Christina, Justin - were all heavily influenced by her so I even if I wasn't old enough to remember it I was aware of her iconography, the Janet. Rollingstone cover, the choreography to Rhythm Nation and If, the "It's Janet - Ms. Jackson if you're nasty". All the stuff that people just a little younger than me were completely oblivious to after the Super Bowl.

See... shit like this. It wasn’t just the Super Bowl and it wasn’t just “Cry Me A River”. There was so much years after the fact that just continued to shit on these women as a “joke”

It’s not like he was being grilled over it - because it’s Zane Lowe - and perhaps I read into it, but to me he looks and sounds visibly uncomfortable even talking about it. The answer he gives is rambling and he barely looks Zane in the eye

By the way, I can’t find it now, but I believe Janet’s side said at the time they never actually heard anything from him in terms of an apology to her. So “make peace” seems like wishful thinking on his part.

I believe that Janet mentioned in the Oprah interview that he reached out, but she wasn’t ready to talk to him yet? She looked understandably hurt because she viewed him as a friend.

That said, those are disgusting. I’m also living how the Army is out for blood this week ddd

I think Janet was being cordial, as she usually is. The Oprah interview is the same one Justin ended up mocking on “Give It To Me” so I don’t buy his reaching out to her was anything other than self serving because he had an album coming out. Her friends, team, and family have all made it pretty clear that it’s not water under the bridge and that Janet has stayed silent on what actually happened after the fact between them, and she remains silent on it aside from her acknowledging #JanetJacksonAppreciationDay, started as a response to Justin performing at the Super Bowl in 2018, which says it all really.

Honestly at this point, i wish nothing but the worst for him. In his case, i don't care about that mental health stuff, cause he already ruined two careers, at least.

I'll repeat what I said in the Janet thread: I'm sure part of why Justin was into it is because of Britney, but I very much doubt he was the brains behind it like the headline implies. It was very much MTV wanting another headline grabbing moment and using both of them and throwing Janet under the bus when they got backlash. He says Janet forgave Justin ages ago, but surely his manager wouldn't have been making a fool of himself in Janet's Instagram comments the other day if that was the case? It also doesn't sound like the stylist is owning up to his part in altering the garment to begin with dd. Overall, I'm more interested in the corporations that set this woman up and the men that literally had a personal vendetta against Janet. Justin is at the bottom of the list of people who need to explain themselves (although he definitely still needs to)

I’m honestly not sure if I believe this either, but I remember there was a passing narrative at the time about him trying to one up Madonna and Britney... until the vilification of Janet totally took over. The headline seems deliberately aimed to somehow shoehorn Britney’s name in there to attract as much clicks as possible.

That said, yes, Les Moonves’ disgusting obsession with destroying Janet’s career 100% should be part of this conversation if we’re really going to be digging this up again. I’m surprised Justin’s team hasn’t somehow deflected by mentioning that, but I suppose it’ll be a last resort.

Les Moonves is an absolutely horrid little man, but I can take some solace in the fact that he has at least a little less sway in the industry now after getting the chop from CBS in 2018.

As for Justin and his team...that tepid Notes app moment from the man himself was already bad enough, but I don't understand why his manager, stylist, dogwalker, etc. keep trying to deflect for him in the most embarrassing way possible. Either actually apologize to Janet or shut up already.
