Justin Timberlake

The people supporting him in the IG comments are bizarre. I was especially taken aback by Brandi Carlile, a queer woman, commenting “I can’t wait to see how you get involved with elevating women and marginalised people. You’re an inspiring dude to me”.

He’s thrown out a 2 page notes apology (probably not even written by himself) and now he’s an inspiration to women?

It's interesting how bigotry has a way of always revealing itself. I will never understand why men are so hateful to women. Is it the original sin? Was it that Incel masterpiece? Did the first woman like punch our dog and it's been an onslaught ever since?

Justin you said it yourself. You are a tool. An instrument. Fix it.

What a lovely apology - I'll take it as valid as long as you don't appear ever again in any form of entertainment. I need these misogynist white straight males to disappear from the face of earth and pop history, while we're at it.

I hope you are being facetious? Everyone and their grandma knows he won’t. He’s to self absorbed to not release a barrage of crap we don’t need.

As someone said what is Justin’s Legacy?

Britney & Janet both have untouchable discographies and Poetic Justice & Crossroads shit on all his movies from a great height plus neither of them appeared in a Woody Allen movie.

He said all the right things..

I don't think he did. I hate it when people say "I wasn't perfect" in an apology. No one expects anyone to be perfect but people expect you not to be a piece of sh*t.

I want to say he's cancelled for me but I always found him unlikable. I just hope there is enough noise around him now that Disney don't consider his generic songs for their next movie soundtrack.

What a riot.

People really be out here wanting to forgive white men for doing the absolute bare minimum. The general rhetoric surrounding his apology seems to be "it's good of him to acknowledge his mistakes!"... like ya'll (as in the wider public) really believe he would've issued this apology if it wasn't for the documentary? I woke up today still pissed about this. Watch him never mention either woman ever again. Janet and Britney deserve better.

he/him
There was the initial shock of him acknowledging Britney and Janet at all, but it did quickly wear off when you start to really dig into the apology. As people have said, it’s decent enough on the surface, but remembering how long this has gone on, how often he’s been confronted by media or fans online, and many times he’s mocked these women beyond the initial incidents that caused their public images to be tarnished, it really doesn’t amount to very much. He’s known for a while what people thought of him – he was asked about Janet directly when he got the Super Bowl just a couple years ago and he made a joke about it being a PG show. And obviously we don’t need to know whether or not he reached out to them privately before this, but if he didn’t then it’s just another case of him attempting to manipulate the public into seeing him as the good guy.

I’ll never forget the absolute, palpable terror in his eyes when someone (I think it was Zane Lowe?) asked him about Janet in the lead-up to the 2018 Super Bowl performance. Like, you had ample time to prepare for that since 2004, so what’s good Miss Jussy

I would love to see this. I love when people like Justin are held accountable for his actions.

It’s not like he was being grilled over it - because it’s Zane Lowe - and perhaps I read into it, but to me he looks and sounds visibly uncomfortable even talking about it. The answer he gives is rambling and he barely looks Zane in the eye

This is what I keep returning to. And yes, it wasn't Justin who had her blacklisted, but it's the fact that it was Janet who suffered the entire fallout while his career went to greater heights afterward despite being the literal instigator of the event.

It's one thing that she never scored another Top 10 hit after that even though she was still at the height of her commercial powers, it's another thing entirely that the previous 15 years of a groundbreaking, legendary career in music was completely wiped from the history books. Recurrent airplay, video recognition, all of it just gone. Songs that should still be omnipresent are no longer there. That's legacy. That's the shit that was erased. Her monumental influence in pop music will forever be overshadowed. How is Justin, or anyone involved in her downfall, going to fix it? That's what I want to know.

Complete agree. Janet has regained a lot of good will in the last 3-5 years (multiple canceled tours aside dddd) but the fact that she even had to...

Her legacy should be as highly regarded and respected as any other in the business. Her impact on music in the late 80s and 90s was just as important as Madonna, Whitney, Mariah, etc. but she is often overlooked and forgotten about.
