K-Pop (General Discussion)

Sorry was kind of a guilty pleasure from them just because it was so thoughtless and repetitive, but undeniably catchy. THIS on the other hand I am unashamed of loving. The chorus is genius. I've been impressed with this group and hopefully they only continue putting out good music, because their older stuff is pretty terrible from what I've found off Youtube.

Thought, though - they're not the best looking of boybands, are they? There's 13 of them apparently and I'd say 3 or 4 tops are good looking. That is an atrocious proportion for a boyband!

They are an odd boyband...i know they have different individual talents but some are great singers, dancers, or entertainers. The different variety/reality shows they do are hilarious so they are more comic relief to me.. but this track is a gem.

Re: Korean Pop

I wish I knew enough Korean to be able to sing along with the real lyrics, I can only do the 'Only for you' part. How many were there at the start of Super Junior? I really don't recall the band being so big when I last checked (that was in 2005). SM Ent. must love having huge boy/girl bands, the nine of SNSD weren't enough?

What's new with DBSK, Wonder Girls and SNSD at the moment? Or they having a break or something or did some new artist overshadow them?

Re: Korean Pop

I thought one of the girl groups (Wonder Girls?), is trying to crack the US. DBSK is touring Japan right now. The first single off of their new album did not debut at the top spot on the Japanese charts like their past couple of singles. I wonder if they have peaked in Japan. Are they more popular in Korea or Japan??

Updates:

2NE1's debut performance - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUL6r6qrc-k&fmt=18
Super Junior's 1st performance for It's You - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUAr3xMIl6s&fmt=18
SHINee's latest single 'Juliette' (audio only) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOtvdOIop_0

I thought 2NE1's debut performance was pretty good. Super Junior, well some of the members got terrible makeovers for this follow-up single. I find SHINee's new single okay only, I guess I need a few more listens and the video! Oh, the song is a remake of Cordin Bleu's Deal With It.

Because my love for the SHINee boys has recently increased exponentially, I feel the need to share this performance of theirs for the last single A.Mi.Go:

Love the suits and dance moves, can you believe the group's average age is only 18?

Re: Korean Pop

So it seems the Wonder Girls will be touring as the opening act for Jonas Brothers this summer!
I guess they will be debuting their english versions of Nobody and Tell Me with digital releases to follow. Their english album comes out in September!

Jeez, that was... quick. They're practically already ahead of BoA in the US, and they haven't even done their english album!

Re: Korean Pop

It is strange isnt it? Well their handlers must be aggressively seeking to have them break in the US.
Touring with the brothers is one way to do it, they will get some great exposure from it.
All they need to do after that is build on the promotions until there album drops. They might actually make it on the charts!

Lets hope.

Re: Korean Pop

There's an English version of Tell Me? God that song is awful. It's cute and all but it's just...bad. I think it can only suit the Korean market.

I wish BoA was better promoted and had more US media training as well as English lessons, it feels like she was rushed into this and wasted 3 tracks off the album.

Looking forward to WG's English album though.

I'm not familiar with the artist Lee Jung Hyun(Ava), but I am really loving her new song/video "Crazy"

Here is the video:

that is SOOOOOO weird that u just posted that.. I saw the video a while back and was trying to think this evening of who sang the song!! wow, thanks! yeah its a great song/video.. according to the video brian from the X factor did the chorography and directed!!

I've just realised, so so many korean videos are filmed in studios.. is there a reason for this?

Re: Korean Pop

I like Lee Jung Hyun's other song, Vogue Girl: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x112ZIvaX3k

Saw her at one of the radio shows when I was in Korea last week! I also saw SHINee at the same radio show but on a different day, they are really cute. Here's the video to their latest single, Juliette - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_EWKGoIZOU

I also just fell in love with Son Dam Bi's Saturday Night which I previously found underwhelming. It was played everywhere on the streets of Seoul and so I thought, it isn't that bad after all. Oh, 2NE1's Fire also finally clicked with me!

Anybody likes 2PM's Again and Again? They have been promoting it for a while now but no one seems to mention them here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GxeOulHgyY

A new girl group 4Minute just debuted last Thursday, one prominent member being an ex-Wonder Girl. Here's the video to their song Hot Issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eutIhpxDnQ Their concept is similar to 2NE1.

And lastly, a little snippet of the english version of Wonder Girls' Nobody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyJ51Hk1x2s I think it sounds really strange but I guess I'm just too used to the Korean version.

EDIT: I forgot to add this song 'Beauty' that Lee Hyori and Yoon Gun did - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daxgRG6sZBw I really like it, it's such a cute, lovely song.

Re: Korean Pop

Funny you mention 2pm. I only noticed them after they beat Super Junior on one of the weekly countdown shows recently. I LOVE Again & Again, so I downloaded one of their EP's from iTunes. I just hate that their vocals are vocodered to death, especially on Again and Again.
They are good singers but better dancers.

Here is their winning performance of Again & Again/ I Hate You.
Love how the guy with the sleeveless shirt moves.

Vogue Girl is great, I have Welcome to My Style, which is think is the best of her other stuff.

Anyone know what happened to Sunha> she had a good mini album out last year and seems to have disapeared...
