A former member of a six-member boy group is facing trial for sexually molesting another member.

On April 3, it was reported that a boy group member had sexually molested a member of his own group since they were trainees, leading to concerns that trainees and idols, even after their debut, aren’t properly protected by labels.

According to reports, on March 29, prosecutors demanded that a former idol member be sentenced to three years in prison, have his identity revealed, be forced to undergo sexual education training and have restrictions placed on his work for five years.

According to a Seoul Shinmun report, the male idol sexually molested his member at least three times from 2017 to 2021. The report states that the alleged male idol has admitted to most of the charges. When asked about the charges, however, the idol stated he was drunk and didn’t remember.

According to reports, the alleged victim reported the crime to Gangnam Police in 2021, and Seoul’s Central Prosecutors then indicted the alleged perpetrator in January of last year. The alleged perpetrator has since left the team for personal reasons. When reached for a statement, the alleged group’s label stated they’d release a statement later.

People are speculating about what group this is about, but I'm not clear if they meant the group has 6 members currently or before the accused member was kicked out. Some names are being thrown around on Twitter but they either don't match the timeline or the public statement of leaving due to "personal reasons".

Hello fellow K-pop enthusiasts!! I need guidance and help. I’ve discovered the amazing wealth of k-pop girl groups last year, but now I need help to discover the world of boy groups. I’m more into R&B-leaning, smooth harmonies and killer vocals, but open to explore it all! So please help me, which boy bands should I start with?

SHINee and EXO probably fit what you’re looking for the most. Their discographies are very R&B-oriented and have strong focuses on vocal harmonies (you could say this about basically any group under SM Entertainment however). The former are more or less the boy group equivalent to Red Velvet as they have explored a lot of different sounds and genres, while the latter are more pure R&B.

Other boy groups I’d also recommend which have what you’re looking for are:

- NU’EST (have really good R&B vocals and dance songs)
- GOT7 (their singles are hit and miss (speaking as a fan) but their album tracks are very good and their more R&B songs are found there)
- ONF (think SHINee in terms of diverse range of sounds and concepts, but more pure-pop-oriented. But they also have strong vocals and harmonies)
- SEVENTEEN (this group has different sub-units dedicated to vocals, dance and rap, I think you’d like their vocal unit songs a lot)
-OnlyOneOf (their sound is very alternative-R&B)

Oh Thank you! This is exactly what I needed. I’ve tried with BTS but there are not really my cup of tea. And I will definitely check your suggestions out, Red Velvet is my favourite girl group within the K-pop universe right now!!
