I must admit I regret my score for this as I find it enjoyable now. Sorry Ddanjak.

Diary isn't a particularly unique song. It serves it purpose as album track, a textbook girl-group mid-tempo that showcases member's vocals more. Diary takes that formula and elevates it through the great melody and the performances of gugudan themselves. The melody of Diary is so good and memorable, I love how the pre-chorus is so catchy and energetically sung. And when it transitions to the chorus with that simple phrase " You and I together" , whew goosebumps !

Like I said, gugudan themselves are another star that shines through it. I don't know if it's the rookie spirit or what, but all of them sounds so great and enthusiastic here. Shame their career was in shambles, they are such a well-rounded group. *sigh* another girl-groups to mourn about.

Many of you miss them which is understandable, like @Slice of Life : "miss u girlies!!" and @Wills : "They should really put out more stuff like this! ...*sobs*" then why both of you don't buy the album give it a 10 ?! On the other hand, fake Ddanjak @codecat said : "Gorgeous, a bit over the top but some of you like that, I like their Full8loom serve Street more" To credit Mariah Carey, I know it's over the top, but that's how festive I am xoxo.

And now she lost. Your Summer is her first track to be eliminated and to be honest, it's incorrect first out ! Where are the 10s at Little Areuminators @Ana Raquel @soratami ?

If you're an avid Lovelyz / Kim Areum listeners, you may notice that the producer SPACECOWBOY (part of 1Piece) also has production tendencies, just like other producers in this rate. The 4/4 disco beat but with sharper kick and snare, the saw-tooth synths, these are very uniquely SPACECOWBOY.

Your Summer employs this formula and imbue it with city-pop influences, yet somehow also still feel very summer-y. One thing that I adore the most from 1Piece team is the synths work, and this time they once again delivers. That bubbly synths during the verse, the combination of funky bass, trumpet and saw-tooth synths in the chorus, God truly magnificent works. They even give the most 80s sounding breakdown with that guitar solo along with prominent trumpets, these aren't enough for you gays ?

@Crisp X nails what makes Kim Areum is so appealing to me, yet she doesn't stan ? "Yeah so her songs for some reason toe the line between sounding like ABBA and anime opening, and I feel like her voice is a mismatch with the sound at times… but I’m intrigued." Hmm, I thought the melancholic vibes of her voice suit very well ? Another hater @codecat also drags : "Kinda drags a bit too much".
.

Next elimination will be an alumni from idols competition. Will it be IZ*One time ? Stay tuned !

Your Summer’s great and it actually should not be out first by her, but lemme revel in my bitterness for a second, ‘cause she’s still salty about Love City being out already.

As they just has their Japanese comeback, Kep1er must lose their song in this rate and it's their second Korean single, Up! If Diary is a case of a song that sadly grows after I've done rated it, Up! did the opposite. I loved it when it was released, but that excitements start to wear out as time passes by.

It's not that Up! is a bad song. It is great and packed with many amazing elements, mainly attributed to the production itself by none other than Full8loom. Their main forte, utilizing super funky slap bass as the main drive of the song, appears in Up! . The chorus, albeit some may say it's a bit juvenile, is a big blast of serotonin. The thing that I love the most however is that second pre-chorus, that dreamy "Kep 1 moving" is so refreshing and needed mood change in the sea of cutesy stuff. Oh I also like how that trumpet hook sounds a bit like SISTAR Shake It.

I think the main problem that causes me bored with it is the post-chorus hook. Personally, I find the hook / post-chorus is a bit draggy and kinda kills the whole energy from the chorus. However, I still don't think it warrants scores below 7 though nn. Let's see the defense from one of the lowest scorer @Wills : "My least favourite single is the one I see most people touting as their best, go figure" Oh we get it you want a serious, artiste music in K-pop, huh ? On the other hand, @codecat thankfully converts : "A misunderstood ANTHEM – yeah I wasn't very happy at first with it being so rap-heavy and structurally weird but it became one of my top 10 songs of the year: you CANNOT deny that chorus. You cannot." Yesss that chorus is amazing, shame the hook isn't that good.

Don't forget to check Kep1er newest comeback down below ! It sounds like a marriage of watered down Up! and Umpah Umpah nn.

Blame it on Peter for postponing the next results xoxo

Memories become the first WJSN track to be eliminated in this rate. Memories is also part of long-standing collaborations of e.one and WJSN, which can be seen as continuation of previous works like Miracle and Renaissance.

At first, I was a bit confused how Memories made it to this rate instead of the OG Miracle. I remembered I wasn't really a big fan of this when it was released, due to exhaustion from e.one formula. However upon further listening, I must say Memories stands out a bit compared to the predecessor and I enjoy it better now.

If Miracle and Renaissance seems like they try to capture once again the magic of Secret with their grandiose feeling and swooping strings, Memories takes a more organic approach. The string is still there, but now the guitar and piano are a bit more prominent. Another distinct difference is in the melody. e.one has tendency to go overboard in writing melodies, putting twists and interesting chord progressions. In Memories, e.one take a more straightforward way, resulting in a refreshingly sentimental feeling into it without being too heavy.

Nobody said anything about this song, huh ? Except ms @thommyh who said : "god, I miss gfriend." I see it but I also don't see it ? I see it closer to anything April done, but let me recommend a Gfriend song that resembles a bit.

I will try to eliminate 2 tracks tonight, hope I can keep this promise

This is the hardest elimination that I've done so far, not because I like the song but because how nugu the girls are fffff it's hard to find the album tracklist and images from this particular era, added with the fact that their name is unsearchable and they are drastically changed from this concept.

Heart Signal is...I will let you girls talk about it positively first nn. Starting with @codecat who made a point : "Never listened to this and it serves and SLAYS – sounds kinda like the e.one b-sides on WJSN’s Secret mini! Lemme listen to their mini after this" while @Crisp X have a discovery : "I vaguely remember this group but how did I never hear this bop before?". The original pick @FunkyButChic has been brainwashed : "I’m convinced my brain signals have just been going “like you like like you like like” since 2018.". @Slice of Life mourns another story of nugu tier group : "these girls just... disappeared without a trace, im still heartbroken. They were such consistent bop releasers!"

Sooo yeah I don't really like this one nn, I'm kinda shocked at the positive reactions and how it did so well. Look, I'm a major fan of cutesy songs and nugus, but Heart Signal just doesn't gel with me. Like @codecat said, it reminisce of e.one production with WJSN earlier stuff. It's bouncy, very electronic in the chorus with weirdly dubstep influences. On the other hand, the verses feel very empty and weirdly the hook isn't doing anything to me. I find it sung too low in energy aspect, like if you want to go cute then commit to it girls !

I think we've so much WJSN soundalikes through this rate ff so let me recommend their first single Party Time, which is quite interesting and the kind of messy nugu stuff that I love, including authentic ethnic hip experience !

EDIT : WAIT their first mini album has several gems, including this authentic disco anthem that sneakily copies I Will Survive. After Like whomst ?!!
